    Hi,

Interesting. Seems they changed the design.

With some averaging I'd say around -12db @ 20KHz and by the looks -18db at what might be 25KHz'ish..

Hmm Interesting, the active MB2 seems to have the 27mm tweeter actually, but still has a phase plate. I the passive BB5 has the 27mm as well but the active has had the 34mm for the last 2 or 3 years at least.

    BTW, is -12db at 20KHz normal or what for 30degrees off-axis? Is -3db on-axis and -6db 45 off-axis more normal?

    Hi,

Well, I would say from where I stand the kind of response shown by your AML's is undesirable. Clearly PMC have a different view.

At 30 degrees I would like to see ideally around 2-3db attenuation with a reasonably flat response but gently falling off around 1db/10ade for domestic use and for studio use flat (flat on axis is given).

Do you have any measurements of the prototype Transparence speakers at your place? They didn't sound very bright at the very HF extremes. Maybe at around 2KHz-7KHz a bit bright for my own taste.

    Hi,

Nothing at my place. I did measure them during shows in those rooms and found in both cases +/- 3db 1/6th octave above 100Hz and below 10KHz, a bit less predictable above and below. That is in room with full room contribution.

The active mb2s have a different tweeter to the passive mb2s - I have one and saw the other yesterday.

Indeed, but looking at the PMC site, although the active MB2 uses the phase plate, it is still a 27mm one. I thought the MB2 and BB5 were the same except for the woofer but it seems not.

    BB5 – 27mm
    BB5 Active – 34mm and phase plate
    MB2 – 27mm
MB2 Active – 27mm and phase plate (different to the passive though?)
    AML1 – 34mm and phase plate

Ahh so I wasn't just going mad there is a MB2 model with the 34mm! :)

Are you getting the XBD then? They are designed specifically to work with the XB subs from what I see. They sure have a lot of different models!

    Hi,

By the looks of it PMC is replacing the tweeters all across it's speakers, but may not have caught up with updating all pictures and data.

Economically it makes a lot of sense to have the same tweeter all across a wide range of speakers. How much better/worse/different the results end up time will tell.

Hey, has anybody noticed? Johnny's last post was No. 56 of 110+, on page 4 of 8.

(Whispers, hoping against hope): Do you think he's lost interest?

The mb2a has 34 mm also. Actives have 34, passives are smaller. It has been like that for at least 3-4 years for the 3-ways.

The tweeters were upgraded a long way back on the studio models, but the non-three ways were upgraded to the same tweeter a year or so ago to make the range sound more consistent and for rationalisation.

The website says the MB2A has a 27 mm tweeter.

Yes but its wrong. I originally discussed purchasing the mb2a with pmc when I bought the passive - they said it was 34mm.
