Would you rather pay for a Sky digital subscription costing £13.50 - £41 per month plus Sky Box Office movies/events as extra when relevent or

pay £10 per month for a subscription to all BBC channels at present? I would thought this it really the best deal available. Maybe what we need are TV and radio sets that allow the option for some people not receive all the BBC programmes unless they wish to pay for them.

Quote from the BBC website, HOW THE £10 per month LICENCE FEE IS SPENT

    £5 - terrestrial TV
    £1 - digital
    £1.20 - radio
£1.50 - local TV and radio
    £0.30 - Online
£1 - transmission and collection of licence fee

In the future the fee should be for independent news only.

i'm happy to pay the license fee. I don't have sky, there would be no excuse to go to the pub to watch the football.

Gazz you're right , stop watching TV, listening to the radio, reading the paper - we're all being had.

From what I heard on the radio this morning you might have to throw away the computer too. Apparently as a some people use a comp. to listen to radio, watch TV, the Gov has proposed extending the licence fee to a 'computer tax'.

    What a muppet!!!

I sat bemused listening to an interview about this last night. The question put to her was along the lines of, "how can you justify forcing people to pay for a service they might not use?"

She then replied with something about tradition ("If Martians were to land here toMOrow, then maybe they'd find the idea strange, but it's accepted tradition here"), and compared the set up to how the NHS works! The interviewer replied with something like, "if you need medical care, then you NEED it, it's not really the same with TV is it?"

Good god  What morons. Since when do you have to pay tv license for using the radio and if you have a tv card in your pc you have to pay tv license. Its not complicated.

Yeap. I am not sure why people are moaning. It you do not think available BBC TV programmes are worth £10/month then don't buy a TV. B1u3print, Have you throw out your TV yet?

But shouldn't people have the choice?

    When I consider the following:
BBC programmes range in quality from crap (sometimes) to OK (mostly) to excellent (occasionally)
Programmes on Sky channels range from merely crap (occasionally) to absolutely dire (mostly)

I think the BBC is a bit of a bargain frankly. But I'm glad the BBC has been told to stop chasing the lowest common denominator and concentrate on quality TV.

From what I could make out, any computer will be able to receive streaming video and should the TV companies decide to stream their programmes over that newfangled internet thingy then any computer will in effect become a TV receiver. Therefore all computers with or without TV card will be licencable. I could have just misunderstood the idea.

What do you mean? That people should have the option to watch all other free commercial TV channels and only pay this £10 fee to turn on the BBC channels as well if they wish it? The technology must be available now if that is what you think is the better option. Sounds like a reasonable suggestion too.

And you can pay your subscription to Sky and still enjoy the privilege of watching adverts too.

    Yep.

I agree with MOst people here in that I'm happy to pay the £10. But I think the choice should be there.
