For reasons to tedious to mention I'm in need of advice re a sub suitable for music (don't want to shake the sofa during action movies!). The speakers to match are JBL control 1s which obviously need a little support in that area!

    Criteria:

    Speaker level input
Binding posts in preference to spring clips
    reasonably compact
    Cheap!! (ish)

    Any suggestions gladly accepted.

I took delivery of a Monolith-DF last week (for cinema use) and while I'm loving it to bits, I can say without a doubt that it is not what you're looking for. I would cast my gaze to one of the XLS subs for music.

BK can also finish subs in rosewood or mahogany for a small surcharge if you ask nicely, if such things matter to you.

I use a Behringer B2092A. It does the job well, uses balanced input/outputs, is very well priced and does the job well. It is, however very heavy, an awkward shape and can be difficult to place in a domestic setting. Check it out!

the next sub I buy will be a BK XLS200 DF

having said that, you can pick up s/hand REL strata 3s quite cheap these days. Admitedly, they're not compact but they work well with music.

cvhck out HSU subs. The biggest bang for the buck in subs. For under a $1000US you can get two!
