Just thought I'd let people know that there's a pair of new Tannoy 215 DMTs going for £2.5K on ebay:

These are incredible speakers with superb drivers and would cost you £2k per speaker (ie £4K) if you bought them new- so a very good deal!

They were in production until last year so new ones will start becoming scarce soon. You may find these S/H for under £2K if you know where to look but they may have seen heavy studio use. They could easily be your last speaker purchase.

I recall seeing a set of these go for well under £2k on eBay about a year ago, about £1,700 I think.

    Great deal anyway.

Perhaps they were 215DMTs rather than the MK IIs?

I prefer the 15DMT (without the additional bass driver), because of it's smaller size.

I think they'd look good stacked, like a stereo pair of 4 x 15 marshall cabs.

    Lets rock!!!!!!

If I had the money and space I myself would definitly give these a go, they are switchable to three way as well, you can turn the co-ax to mid treble leaving the bass driver for bass duties if I remember correctly.

Andy- a pair of these and that COUCH and I'd be in studio heaven. :)

They always go for about 3.5k new on ebay UK- infact this very seller is flogging another pair for 3.5k- I've no idea why these ones are cheaper

Dev, if I had the space, I'd have these over my 15s- just that bit more magic, I think.

The DMTs go a lot louder and have better bass response, but they don't sit well in an average room. I've seen them turned over by 90 deg such that the DC is on the top of the bass driver. Either way, they rock.

They come with 5 yr Tannoy guarantee too.
I think he originally had 5 pairs and was asking £3.5k a few months back, relisting at ever dropping price.
£2.5k though the price is right:).
    "Lower, lower" the crowd yells.
They sounded better in my room when I rotated them 90'.
Incidentally for the DIY minded if you can pick up some tired CPA15's it is relatively easy and cheap to recone with the 3833gg bass cones and build your own like I did.http://www.hilberink.nl/codehans/tannoy118.htm
My crossover eschews the tone adjustment and is set flat-ish.
Most tannerds also remove the 200uF super cap too.
I kept the pro speakon neutrik terminal panels.
Three way runs the bass up to 250hz then xover to the DC.
To these ears an improvement to the mids at the loss of some true low end weight/impact so I'm running the bass parallel with the DC up to 250 hz.
Cost me about £1200 and an athletic support.
    Frank

    Frank- really superb work!

That 3833gg was used on the $20k Churchill, I believe.

Thanks mate-I know where the bodies are buried tho', couple of minor cockups in there:)Also I've got some marble rails on order to stand them on(like fat long blades about 3x8x18")
Tannoy were dead helpfull too regarding the adhesives advice and damping putty for behind the drivers.
The guys over on the Tannoy forum were just brill-everyone pitches in with diagrams, circuit upgrade advice even taking their dmts apart to get some dimensions for me.
It is the same driver as the Churchill but they(the americans) chose a passive xover slope that a Tannoy UK engineer informed me "wouldn't have chosen" themselves.

I ought to get over to the Tannoy group more often- there were a handful of DMT owners last time I looked. :)

Yep get over there Baudrillard, kick some life into it, it's been very very quiet over there for ages. Maybe it needs a good cable thread :D

    Dave ,
The only time it does get heated is when people like romy come on talking gibberish-I like how everyone tries to be civil and helpful-the files and photo archive is a goldmine of freely donated info.
S'pose its because most are united by a common love/enthusiasm for a particular brand of speaker-though pepperpot vs tulip waveguide does get the handbags out occasionally:D

Maybe we should stop cable threads and start on pepperpot v wave guide and alnico v ferrite. I vote for pepperpot and alnico respectively:D.

    Cooky,
While I think you may talk some serious nonsense about audio, you do have most excellent taste in speakers :)
What these remind of most are the big Kingdoms we get here, but in flat grey and much, much cheaper!
