Assuming the guy gets back to me on whether he lives in Richmond Yorkshire or London, there are some nice looking Tannoy R2's on fleabay, but I'm just wondering if they'll work well in a smallish bedroom, approx 14x11 ft either side of my TV?

I can find plenty of reviews which suggest they are good speakers and they looks the dogs danglies, but how well are they likely to work here (one on either side of that 32" widescreen TV in the pic)?

One can only try and see in their own room, but my experience of rear ported speakers is that they don't work well in small rooms.

I found the R2s a bit too soft on the end of CD17KI/PM17KI. Sleep inducing. The Mission 773e is much better at about the same price.

Yeah I was worried about them being too laid back also.... I dont tend to like laid back hifi. I was however, seduced by their lovely appearance.

Nevertheless, I have a couple of speakers I am tempted to bid for today...

M2 are laid back and easily stressed when pushed hard.

The Tannoy R2's are excellent speakers for the money IMO. However, they really need space to breathe and work better in large rooms - bass ouput is quite healthy. You could use some sponge bungs (which are supplied with R2's) to reduce that a bit if necessary.

And as for them sounding laid-back, well yes, they are. But I'll take a laid-back and relaxed speaker over a bright, aggressive in-yer-face speaker any day of the week thanks.

Yeah I tried the R2's when they first came out in a 3metre square bedroom, didn't really work out as there was too much bass.

in your opinion but IMO you are way off the mark there- the 773s sound horrible, empty midrange, no depth to the bass etc. The Tannoys Revolutions are the best midrange Tannoys that they've produced (way better than the Sixes and Saturns and Sensys). Much, much better made than the Missions too.
