I heard a pair of Westminster Royales once, powered by an Ongaku-on amp with, wait for it, DCC as source (remember that?).
It was playing some opera stuff, but sounded great if you like that sort of thing, which I don't. The Tannoys made it acceptable though!

Yes:). In fact I still have a player (no tapes tho) because it played analogue tapes better than my Cassette deck.
You are invited to bring your own music.

I'm quite looking forward to it.

I just wanted to know if someone has heard the Westminster or Yorkshire and your impression about them.

Also I would like to know where it is possible to audition them in a right room.

    regards

I heard their top of the range new ones.. can't remember the name, I remeber them being very accurate across the range with a good stereo image and no boom, but sounded small compared to my speakers.

Didn't get to hear them but Stone Audio recently had an open evening and the Westminsters were in the building on the left:

If you come to Japan, there are quite a few places you could hear Westminsters or Yorks. Not sure about the rooms, though ;-)
I think they're great, but that's after occasional cursory listens only, I'm afraid.
Obviously you would be investigating the biggest models, which IME is the way to go. The "compact" models just don't quite sound right somehow.

I'm interested in them because there are always discussions over here about them but I never can take any position. Also I believe a good audition, wouldn't harm me and it would be good for experience.

If you are interested in getting some big speakers, check out the larger active ATCs at the same time.

    Hi Titian,
It would be really interesting to hear what you thought about them.

Bub, perhaps you should check out some Tannoy Westminsters, and while you're at it some big Westlakes.
I think they have some of these

I don't envisage any system changes in the forseeable future, but thanks for the tip.

I don't know exactly. I'm meeting Ian (sideshowbob) at his place before going to Walrus. According to their website their contact details are:-
    Walrus Systems
    11 New Quebec St,
    London W1H 7RW

    Tel: (+44)(0)20 7724 7224
I think the nearest Tube station is Marble Arch.

I'd love to hear a pair of Westminsters. sadly London is a long way, just to hear a pair of speakers.

I'd never get them in the house anyway, so its an academic point. good fun to be had waving the brochure at the wife and threatening to buy a pair though. :D

I heard the Westminster Royales, and are excellent for scale and grandeur...
Never heard them with rock, but they almost had me liking opera!!!!
    And they're a proper size...
