Nothing like a cuppa to get the guts moving. Coincidence or not?

dont know if they are laxatives as such, i *think* they are relaxents, and so relax the muscle that hold the poo in:eek:

No, the act of moving from your seat to make the cup of tea or coffee is enough to start things hidden in "deep storage" on a journey towards your "dump points" hence all the rumbles, slurps and the sometime venting of noxious odors into the atmosphere.

Well, I'm not sure if it's perhaps just hot liquid waking things up, or something specific to tea/coffee, but they tend to get things MOving even if hadn't felt the need before drinking!

Normal cold water or other soft drinks don't seem to do much.

    Good thread eh? :D

    sorry, that is incorrect
    i can prove this
my girly brings me coffee in bed before she goes to work, i drink it and then need to evacuate.
Therefore the effect is present without me having to move!

    :D

Drug agencies use coffee to force movements in those held overnight -- it's not a 'drug', and so is legal.

Wasn't there some celebrity reality TV show set in a health farm where they used a gallon of lukewarm black coffee as an enema?

    More details here

Coffee is indeed a laxative (not so tea), and what's more, it'll turn solids runny, so beware.
You have to drink a fair amount, but it does have an effect. A really effective laxative is prune juice BTW. In case you're in need of help :)

yep, caffeine, which is present in tea and esp. coffee stimulates the gut - some folks are more sensitive than others.

Also, tannin found in tea can make your gut a bit dodgy too.

Bet u wished you never asked :D

This is true - but prune juice tastes like poo before you even, err, poo. Grim stuff (but better than Fibogel!).

Smoking can work like a laxative too - after a while of smoking (6 or so months), it's common for someone to need a dump after smoking a cigarette - not EVERY ciggy obviously, but it stimulates SOMETHING down there....

This thread is a load of old sh** :) He he!

coffer and tea are certainly diuretics, ie make you wee.

try liquid paraffin, or senna, both from boots, or a nice hot curry and lager:D
