I want one of these to use as a transport. Would also be interested in Esoteric or Wadia CDPs or transports that use the same quality VRDS mechanism.

If it's just to use as a transport, then you're potentially wasting money looking for a VRDS25X.

The VRDS25 sells for about £475, the 25X for £600+.

The only difference between the two is the volume control and inputs on the VRDS25X which are no use to you as a transport.

There is a P700 on ebay.co.uk at the moment, which should go for less than £300.

I've owned owned both a P700/D700 and a VRDS25 and preferred the former combination. I'm not 100% sure, but having taken the lids of both, they do appear to use the same VRDS mechanism.

Some of the Wadias use the cheaper VRDS mechanism used in the TEAC T1.

PS. I have a TEAC P-30 will I may be selling soon, if I can ever find a one box player with digital inputs and volume control on which I don't get outbid.

The P700 is rubbish. Stay away from the auction.

Ok. I am bidding on it. ;)

Interesting. A technical bod at TEAC specifically told me to go for the 25x rather than the 25 when I told him I was looking for the best VRDS transport - the CMK 3.2 I understand. It would be great to find out just what the difference is between the two models - anybody know?

I would be very interested in your P30 as it is apparently has the 3.2 transport. Can I tempt you to sell it?

Rulocal and Unclepuncle - thanks for your replies but those models don't have the CMK 3.2 according to my info.

    Cheers

    Hi Ian,

I'm happy to stand corrected by TEAC on the VRDS version in the respective players.

The P30 has the added advantage/disadvantage of having a built-in sample-rate converter so it outputs at 48Khz rather than 44.1KHz.

    I've PM-ed you.
