    Hi Hippy!

Do you have to make the L pad, or does it come made up already?

Also, is it possible to have a seperate one for each speaker? - I was hoping to put a small little box of gubbins hidden behind each supertweeter.

L pads should be in the wilmslow catalogue along with other places. As Hippy say's you can adjust the level while keeping a constant series resistance. They look like big wire wound pots attached to a front plate - cos thats what they are. Wilmslow will demo some of their kits, but I doubt if they would demo everything they sell

no, they cant demo, and the stock will be in there in about 3 weeks.

Its only Leicester, so I might drop by there in about 3-4 weeks.

and they will sort me with an L pad and crossover.

    cool.

    WadiaM,

This is how I visualise things:

Imagine a pool of water with two balls bouncing up & down on the surface. One very slow (woofer), one very quick (supertweeter). Both balls will generate "waves" in the water. The supertweeter waves collide with the woofer waves and have an effect (however small) on some part of that wave's characteristics (and therefore, the nature of the sound reaching my ear).

The effect of supertweeter waves should be greater higher up in the frequency spectrum. I imagine they greatly effect harmonics in the 1khz to 20khz region (those frequencies nearest the supertweeter's operational frequencies should be the most susceptible as they have broadly similar "energy" levels).

Saying that adding one has no effect on the end sound is silly. The laws of physics guarantee it!

Whether or not we are able to hear that difference is a different matter though.......

    DT

PS. This is just my best guess and I could be completely wrong, so speaker techies, please flame me to death if I am!!

    turtle,

WM was just having fun - he uses supertweeters in his own system.. although I did find it hard to detect them at the bristol show... but there was lots of ambient noise, and I have heard a definate improvement with them in other demo's Ive had. Im convinced anyway.

With a known high frequency roll off, its common practice with horns to use a tweeter for the very high frequencies.

Controlling where they cut in and level seems key to avoiding headaches!!

The hard thing to work out is..... which one to get?!?

Did these super tweeters see the light of day??

Mosfet, just been looking at the FT17H, did you proceed?

I haven’t read the entire thread but thought I should say that you can make an L-Pad with two resistors it doesn't need to be a pot, that is only so it is variable. If you choose the right value resistors you can keep the same series impedance.

    Hi Bottleneck,

Is this to use above the 2405's?
