    Help me out here boys.

I am selling my house and my Amphion Xenon's have gone into storage in order to "de clutter" the dining/music room.

I'm looking for speakers to temp for them with a limited budget.
I have had the B&W 603/3 at home for a few days with terrible results: Very strident, clangy crap treble, no bass to speak of, and a very confused, thin midrange - awful, Yack!

So I am hoping to share the experience of other forum members with the following:

    Dynaudio Audience 60.

    Triangle Antal

    Castle Avon.

Any other smooth detailed, smooth sounding recommendations?

    Thanks

    Darren

I would suggest speakers from ProAc or Harbeth myself.

    Cheers

I'd go for Sonus Faber (that's what I use). I also have Dynaudio BM6A's in my studio and they are the smoothest but detailed of the monitors that I listened to. Dominic

What is the amp? That does not sound typical of those speakers to me, particularly the part of having no bass. I suspect they are being underdriven?

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for taking an interest.Sad to say you're not right in this instance. The 603's were driven by my Ben Duncan DVT which delivers 400w into 4ohms. The DVT is perfectly happy driving my large inefficient Magneplanars so I doubt it struggled with the B&Ws.

To be honest the sound was so downright poor that I at first figured the speakers were faulty. Incidentally my system's overall balance tends toward the smooth with kick ass bass and sweet treble.

Tannoy R3s or for around £500, Celestion A2s would be my guess
