    :tempted:

Has to be worth a punt if only to see what it's like. It would probably struggle with my Dynaudios though...

I used to think that of my Tannoys Michael, but Ian's (Sideshowbob) battered old Leak 12 watter drove them very well to surprisingly high volumes.

Interesting. Before I bought my current speakers, I listened to Dynaudio 1.3IIs (and others) and IMO my XA/2 drove it without any problems. However, it can't drive the Tannoys as well. This made me think that Tannoys are probably a "heavier load". So when Ian's valve amp drove the Tannoys well, I'd thought it could also drive the Dynaudios. Ah well, live and learn:D.

I know what you mean Dev.
I used to use a Primare A30.1 and the 1.3's sounded great and i was sure the amp could drive the speakers.
It wasn't until i hooked up the new Krell KAV 400xi that i realised what driving the speakers was all about.

Just to speak the obvious (well, you never know a Newbie might be reading, and get the wrong impression!)..

There isnt a speaker on the planet that you can't drive properly with valves. I know of valve amps that go from 1w per channel to over 1,000w per channel.

Its a question of course of matching the right valve amp with the right pair of speakers.

Which might apply that to your (well described) experience with the 1.3 SE posted before Curt.

I changed my amp with these speakers from MF (heh heh) A3.2 power to A308 power, and while the mids and highs (though pretty effortless through the 3.2) benefited from the extra drive, the low end character changed more dramatically from more or less uncontrolled, into a tight, fast, and articulated response.

It seems that you're first doing this brand right when spending at least double the sum you would reasonably shell out on an amp. But you get your music better than ever, while giving short shrift to room acoustics probs at the same time.

    cheers.
