The best sounding version of...............

trying to bring some life back here. it's all about music isn't it? and surely you all want to know what is the best version you can get of your favourite CDs and LPs, otherwise you might as well go and buy a Bose system.

I'll start with an answer
the best version of Strawberry Fields is on a German version of Magical Mystery Tour LP on the Horzu label from the 70's

Not sure if this is what you mean but I have 38 different versions of CC Rider and I like Lightening Hopkins version. Of all the versions of the House of the Rising Sun that I have listened to, Lonnie Donnegan wins with Woody Guthrie a close second. Thea Gilmore's version of Bad Moon Arising is awesome!

eg the Lightening Hopkins version. I assume there have been many pressings on CD or LP - which one is your favourite?

 

The Best version of The Stone Roses is (IMHO) the double LP 45rpm version. A silvertone numbered pressing from mid 90's I think.

Don't leave it in the sun though as it warps just like the poorer pressings and then lies unused on a shelf for 5 years.

dsotm: 30th anniversary vinyl release.
berlin lour reed: sony 180gm reissue.

 

Generally speaking I find the audiophile reissues (MFSL, Pure Pleasure et al) sound very good, but at a price. Couple of exceptions to that from my collection:

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood. The original UK pressing sounds tons better than the Pure Pleasure 180g reissue.

Tim Buckley - Lorca - Elektra US 1st pressing sounds great; Four Men with Beards reissue - diabolical.
