Well I keep hearing on the news that either we'll stave to death in 20 years or there is a commet heading right for us and it'll hit us in that time, plus all the other scare stores.
So I'm not going to waste a single second! :)
Live while I'm alive, sleep when I'm dead!

To add another angle to this thread. How do people expect humanity to end?

People often talk about it like we'll be here till the Earth goes bang. But many have come and gone before us. Dinosaurs 150 million years, Trilobites 300 million years (I think).... and humans have been here approx half of 1% of the time they were here.

We are but a blink in the Earths history.

Mt St Helens has been mentioned in another thread. Yellowstone is predicted to be capable of massive destruction, and we've no idea when it might happen, and probably wouldn't get much notice (not that it'd be much good).

Plagues and viruses? Throughout history they've popped up with little or no warning, killing millions, only to dissapear without a trace. With our willingness to use antibiotics so readily, they're effectiveness is reducing. Drug companies would rather invest in anti depressants and such where there's MOre MOney to be made. With world travel so common today, disease could spread at crazy speeds.

    Who knows?

    Maybe we'll be around forever?

Each of the 'higher' species does seem to have a life cycle, bacteria have been around the longest and could well be described as the most successful life form. Ants have also done quite well

Tough luck then! Our sun is dying and WILL go supernova eventually :D While most of us can average a healthy lifespan of 80 to 90 years, our sun's life expectancy eclipses that by a good bit -- most scientists estimate that the sun will continue to burn brightly for another five billion years or so.
