My system has lost its life.
I have absolutely no idea what has happened:(

Bass has gone recessed and muffled, and the highs are screaching. The soundstage has just disapeared. Some recordings sound like a tranny radio
This has happened within the last few days, i havent changed anything for over 3 weeks:confused:

    Mains havent changed (fairly sure)
speakers seem OK, lack of bass more than anything else but woofers still move
    havent checked caps.

forgot to mention, it seemed to happen to one channel first, but now both

Switch it all off. Unplug everything. Clean all points of contact. Put it all back together again.

Try using headphones to rule out speaker problems.

Try using a tuner to rule out CD player problems.

Ill try the cleaning, although it was all dont start of December.

Not got any headphones, or a socket. But the problem is apparent on Vinyl play aswell as CD.

Penance - if the fault turns out to be as voodoo has suggested then I reckon we should all tip our deerstalkers to him....that was pretty impressive deduction. :)

It'd be very unusual to have two solder joints go off like that in a short period of time. Also, solder joints usually either work or not, having the sound "go off" like that because of solder joints in the speaker terminals would again be unusual.

Check your system set-up carefully. Anything unusual?

What do you have in your system? Did you play some very loud muic before the sound went wrong?

It's a tricky one mate, do check the basis first before diving in, supply rail voltage devations if any etc, sounds like a psu side cap, a cap meter is useful, but you should have 2 channels, so compare one against the other (It's cude but will give you an idea) if anythings wrong there.
Usually is simple Andy, check also board connections and ground planes and the 0V rails. t.

    pennance,
it probably was the electricity, they've probably been trying out broadband over the national grid in your area or something.
either that or you're insane, obviously.....
