its interesting how some components reach the 'shit list' for some, and the 'shit hot list' for others!

Goes to show what differences of opinion there are!

    NB
Also agree on Chord 1200 amp, god that was thin sounding. If Jerry Hall had been an amplifier..

    Thanks for clarifying that WM;)

FWIW, I reckon just about everything in the hifi world is overrated and hyped.

After all, the system should be there to service the musical requirements, and I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that a PC into some big speakers is all anyone really needs. Music communicates well in the car, the shop, club or even on your Tivoli radio.

It's only some so called hifi that seems to f*ck the basic message up:rolleyes:

    Ah yes, Chord and Nordost.

Even worse, Chord and Nordost in the same system!

    The Koetsu Black,

Going to dealer with real anticipation as to what this wonderous device was going to do with some carefully chosen LPs. Oh Dear! Talk about anticlimax city, fat, bloated and all the snap of a toothless poodle.

We later found out that the Black wasn't even made by Sugano san, but was a mass produced OEM job.

Merlin, you beat me to Nordost.

Ian, you cad! The 773e is one of THE speaker bargains of the last decade. No other speaker up to £500 could hold a candle to it.

The 780 is nice within its limits too.

I too think the Living Voice speakers are overpriced for what they are. When you compare the Auditorium at £1700 with my Castles at £930, there ain't £770 worth of difference.

Well for one thing the LVs are far more suited to low power single ended valve amps, so thats one thing in their favour. For the SET crowd, thats worth a lot.

True, decent high efficiency speakers are thin on the ground, but I'm sure merlin will be along any second to tell us about some nice 98 db/W jobbies with 30 inch bass drivers :D

There's nothing like a big bottom end Chris ( as my ex used to say as she tucked into another bar of dairy milk).

Actually I'm listening to some interesting little speakers at the moment - a kind of Danish 1sc, sealed, without the bloom. Now sadly discontinued, they would show a clean pair of heals to just about any mini monitor on the market currently, so they must be all hyped and overrated:D

LV speakers are great, anyone who doesn't like them must be deaf.

Damn you Merlin, you stole the line I was going to use!

Sorry Andy. I got you mixed up with someone else
The thread was about 'hi-fi'

Otherwise we could also mention Bang & Olufsen :D
Never said I didn't like 'em. I do. Just think they are too expensive. The boxes are very ordinary. They don't even have rounded baffle edges. And the drivers, good as they are, simply don't justify the price.
