Went to see them in 1990 I think. They were a shambles, didn't turn up on stage until gone 10 and then left at about 11. Shane McGowan was so pissed he couldn't stay on his stool. I though there was going to be a riot.
    Hopefully you'll have more luck!

I did see shane live only a few months ago (for first time) - and tho he was a little late, very drunk I thought it was well worth it...

I havn't been to the newcastle arena tho...but managed to book some good seats!

I saw them on the reunion tour in 2001 and they were excellent. Well worth it. If they're half as good again then it's going to be money well spent, Dom & I are going to see them at the Birmingham Academy (2700) which is one of the smaller venues on the tour. Cait O'Riordan, the original bass player, is joining them for a few tracks too I believe.

Saw them twice in Manchester in the eighties. Once with and once post McGowan with Joe Strummer. Both great gigs. McGowan was drinking pints of vodka and was blitzed before he started. They'd taken out the front rows of seats at the Apollo so we pogoed all night.
    Happy days!

I saw them loads of times in the late 80s (the woman I was going out with at the time was a huge fan). They were generally excellent fun. I also saw them when they toured with Joe Strummer taking over as vocalist when Shane left the band, particularly fine version of "Straight to Hell" as I remember.

The last time I saw Shane singing recently (on TV) his voice was completely fecked and so was his timing. It was shambolic, and very sad to see. I think I'll give the reunion a miss, would rather remember him as a magnificent drunk, not a sad one.

wow, what a gig...I was totally blown away - I'd seen shane (solo) a few months agao and that was good...but this was just awesome...they played all their old stuff and the sound quality and his voice were spot on...
I have to admit that my eyes were filling up when they sang 'I'm a man you don't meet every day'...

Birmingham was great too, the band were on top form, so was Shane, much better than when I saw them on the last tour in 2001. For a band that hasn't played together that much recently they're still pretty tight... wonder how much rehearsing was done? A Man You Don't Meet Every Day was great, Cait certainly seemed to enjoy being back onstage again and sang really well. Highlights for me were probably Body Of An American and Rain Street. The whole place went mental the whole night... I'm sure most people wore more pints than they drank too! Major clean-up operation had to take place so the indie kids could come in for their club night! Loads of shattered plastic everywhere from broken glasses!

Yeah, 4 of us are going up to Cardiff to see them on this tour. The Dropkick Murphys as support. You really can't go wrong. Make the effort to see the Murphys, they rule.

    well, went to the gig...

The Dropkick Murphys were ok, not really my cup of tea, but it was worsened by the sound quality, the bass was flabby and the vocals not very loud...

the Pogues themsevles were great, must have been on for about an hour and a half, even Anna Friel (ex brookside) made an appearence to sing a fairytale of new york!

tho, they missed out some of my fave songs (like a pair of brown eyes), and shane was really, really p*ssed as I couldn't really make out anything he said when he spoke, but luckily his singing faired much better!

sound quality wise - it wasn't as good as last years as the bass (like the support) was a bit flabby at the bottom end, but none the less - a great gig!

The Cardiff gig was excellent. There was some problem with the PA though for the Dropkicks and the first 3-4 songs the Pogues did. Almost like something hadn't been plugged in properly... the difference was eminently noticeable when they got it sorted.

Loved the Murphys set, right down the front for all of that one. They aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but you can't fault the attitude and effort those guys put in.

The Pogues were excellent. Nice to hear some different songs in the set from 2001 and 2004. Sayanora, London, You're A Lady, Dark Streets Of London, Sunnyside Of The Street all appeared at Cardiff. Don't the middle two of those have been played since. Highlight for me was probably Thousands Are Sailing. Awesome song.

For most nights of the tour Shane has been joined by Ella Finer, one of the bands daughters, to sing Fairytale. We got Cerys Matthews in Cardiff... still looks good too!
