Seem to have gone pretty much unnoticed (to me at least), but apparantly, they're set to take over the world!!!

First heard of them in a recent Big Issue.

22 Texans in robes and looking suspiciously cult like.

I've only heard the stuff on the site http://www.thepolyphonicspree.com

They sound worth further listening. Any thoughts on where best to start?

AFAIK they only have one album "The beginning stages of ..." it's well worth a listen.

Excellent album, apart from the last track which is almost unlistenably awful (unless I suspect you take some really good drugs). Live they are fantastic. I saw them at one of the NME tour shows (Feb 2003 I think) and they were just fantastic. How they managed to fit twenty odd of them on stage at Rock City (including a piano and a full sized concert harp) I don't know. They just made everyone feel happy, happy, happy :) Would imagine they'd appeal to anyone who likes the Flaming Lips - a similar bonkers party atmosphere at their live gigs.

I believe they have a new album out, or will do very shortly, as I think I've seen reviews.

They have a recent release called 'Together We're Heavy' Section 11 - 20.
Just had a quick listen and not really my cup of tea !
Imagine David Essex with an American accent accomanied by a 1970's style arrangement and you're not far away.
Perhaps this is best listened to with the use of illegal substances

I really like the Polyphonic Spree's first album, it's everso consistent and the last track is shite (and this comes from someone who loves drones, minimalism and long monotonous tracks), but when they shine you can't really beat them for uplifting sunshine feelgood pop.

If you want a proper cult band try these guys

I thought the second album was better than the first, and I liked the first! Except the last track of course.
