Musically average and technically dreadful - it would take more than vinyl euphony to save it.

thanks rob for those sites, as you know i have to put all my vinyl to cdr's as if when i go back to retire in guyana vinyl does not survive well over there , but all those albums do take a long time to do via t/t to tascam cdr, but at the end i will miss my albums, it will take me a few years to complte my transaaction to cdr's

    Your loss.

If all you are after to make you systems sound good are technically brilliant recordings, then you are missing out on some great music.

hey...the music police are out :D:D:D

So what do you guys listen to...

    Katie Melua
    Snora Jones
    Jazz at the Pawn shop

You guys must all be old, balding, in your late 50's and all drive Mazda MX2s or a Ford Focus RS... sad old men!

Not really a loss is it.

I have recordings from the 1930s to date spanning every genre so i don't think I'm missing out.
Of course in the 1930s there was good reason for recordings being technically poor. No such excuses can be made today, other than marketing where gross compression is concerned.

    - 42
    - I have a full head of hair, and it isn't grey ;)
    - I use the train and the bus and don't own a car.
    - My music tastes aren't so different to yours - as a teenager I worked in a recording studio in East London and was exposed pretty much exclusively to reggae bands in the 80s. My vinyl collection kind of reflects that :)

    So there! :D

now now let's not play cold, elbow, shoulders, legs , whatever, music has and always be an inprovition on a work of one note, he who does it to preferance of the general music listener is their choice, there are may groups out there that sound almost the same, i will not go there as to how,. enjoy to what you prefer, mr. holt, did you nick any of my white hair?

FYI, reggae started this by having a side A sung by anyone side B was instrumental, called "VERSION" anyone could use the same track and add on their own lyrics from soul to roots level "toasting" over originals, most of the backing groups, regardless of what name they went under they were all as one,

I could attempt a reasoned discourse but instead I will summarise my views and experience by saying....utter bollocks :D

(sorry this is dragged from so many pages back - I started to read from the beginning but this is as far as I got, I can't bring myself to read any further).

From the title of this thread I thought it might be a philosophical debate as to what moves one within music - instead it's just the usual vinyl versus CD nonsense - how disappointing :(.
