    Hi,
I own a pair of Acoustic Energy 309s. In my mind they have a very exciting sound to them. The sound is not the problem.

I bought one pair last year and loved them, so I started to hunt for a second. Almost 6 months ago to the day my new speakers arrived, before taking them out of the box I lost my job.

I kept them for 6 months in the hall knowing as soon as I got a new job I could take them out of the box and enjoy, but until that day I could, if i needed to sell them; they would still be boxed and shiny.

I sold them last week at a huge loss. Next day, job offer!!

    The f"£$%^g speakers were cursed!

Has anyone else been delivered cursed hardware?

Do you think it is appropriate to contact the company demanding that they inform the purchaser via a printed warning that purchasing these speakers may cost you your job!

Now I want to buy them back, but is it worth the risk, what if they cause me to lose this next job?

Hmm, maybee in small doses they are ok (1 pair) but a second pair can have negative effects?

I am going to contact citizens advice about this.

Silly question perhaps but why do you need two pairs? Be happy that you've got a job and money coming in and don't be upset about the speakers. Hifi is one of the less important things in life ;)

add a 307 centre speaker and you have a surround setup.

I wish to state at this point I am happy. The cursed speakers are gone!

With a wife like mine its hard not to be happy.

People who parade their "perfect" lives online are always lying.

I admire your candour with your thread about your g/f. That's obviously real, although I wouldn't personally do it in public.

I never said my life was perfect just the wife, yeesh isn't a guy allowed to be in love!

My hifi is a bit dodgy at the moment, a have a preamp that occasionally hisses like an opera trained anaconda being violated by a pig. it also adds a buzz to the right chanel too (sorry can't be bothered about bee analogies, but it would have included peanut butter and body hair if i had done one).

Cd player could do some work too.

Just out of curiosity who here is unhappy with there lives at the moment?
Devil do you not think that commenting that other people who say they are happy must by lying more a statment on your own wellbeing than on theirs.

    Sometimes people are just happy!

To me the worst speakers I have heard are lumley (totally incoherent driver setup) and ATC (like nails down a blackboard). Mission would follow a close third.

    Worst speakers......
    owned- wharfdale linton or ditton
    heard sd acoustic sd1

cursed gear......ar a60 amp that would go pop as soon as you looked at it. Had some odd stains on the wooden plinth that would come and go. Gave the thing away in the end,and then life seemed to get better....like the sun coming out from behind a cloud.

Ahem, I think Peter wasn't criticising the sound quality of the speakers, merely that they were cursed, but what the hell, my worst speaker purchase was Mission. Just could not get on with them. My most cursed purchase was not HiFi related (shut up WM! and other Tannoy/MF etc. haters:)) but a car, the first generation Vauxhall Cavalier. It went through 2 engines and 3 gearboxes, not to mention vandelism by racist thugs. I gave it away in the end to my brother in law, who drove it for a while without any problems and then sold it.

To continue the speaker bashing :) Must agree with Dev (man clearly has taste -D700s very nice), although ill widen it to include anything by Mission. Good for making your ears bleed, but not for making music.
