Yep I want to go become self employed or run my own business if possable. I just want to get a degree behind me so that when I have to ask the banks and local business trust I am more likely to get them money. I want to go into web development/multimedia design. I am hopefully doing a work placement next year so I have it all to look foward to, going to bed at 11:30, getting up at 7:00 etc (although I do often have to get up at 7:00 now during term time)

Hi, I'm a geordie in my early 30's (not that the location makes any difference) - But from my perspective - it seems that when the Tories came into power, and the punk era started - there was a generation where no gave a sh*t about anyone, or anything, this generation has now spawned another generation who are even worse…now these people just don't give a damn about anything that happens, they have no fear, it's not going to get any better either, how can it..? Imagine growing up with parent that continually screw the system, abuse things.
In some parts of Newcastle (again, it's probably the same elsewhere) like fenham etc - in the 70's it was fine (but then, I was a kid), but now, it's not safe to walk around there…luckily I now live out in the sticks in Weardale, but I did drive through Newcastle last weekend as I hadn't been there to some part where I grew up for about 15 years…I won't be rushing back!

Chris, Path A of self-employment, or Path B of employment are arguably both routes at the liberty of the individual in this world. But i would contend that neither his psychology nor the world within which its artiface is operating allows for any deviation outside of the world of any form of 'employment' and the flora of acceptable paths and their tributeries. It is in this respect that i was referring to the contention that 'life' is defined for us. It is in relation to this that i highlighted the above points on the aspects of an individual who does not seek 'employment' or 'earning a living', or indeed anything else that is so predominantly imprinted in our psychology, and maintained and expanded through our actions and forces outside of our control or understanding. If someone wants to sit on a wall outside their parents' house and look at stuff, it is not permissable, or at best, it is highly degrading in a sort of pitifull confused fashion, when it is not the subject of anger and attack.

On the bright side Chris, if you become self-employed, yo can join up to the weekday bake-off faction:)

i blame the boomer hippies in the 60's. they either recoiled so much against their peace and love origins and became todays corporate fat cats or joined the unions and screwed the uk's manufacturing industry with strikes in the '70's. generation x is so dulled and numbed by advertising, tv and marketing that they don't really give a shit what's happening. hopefully my child's generation will be able to strike a path between the apathy of generation x and the avarice of the boomers. it'll be difficult though as the combination and order of the 2 generations is building up an incredible inertia in the way things are done which will take something monumental to turn asside.
    cheers
