I know the sale of used software is illegal in Japan, and this new law is just as ridiculous. I doubt very much anyone in the TPD will give two hoots. Mad protectionist legislation that will do more harm than good......

    Utterly bizarre

might be a good way to pick up a bargain...
I'll give you a tenner for the accuphase. Don't agree? I'll report you to the police then....

This ridiculous law reminds me of a certain printer cartridge manufacturer who claims the american DMCA law makes it illegal to refill your own printer cartridges...

I'm sure this would branded as a breach of human rights in Europe. Surely, if you own it you then have a right to sell it, as long as its not a banned material such as drugs or weapons.

I wonder if this includes items bought from abroad via the internet i.e. ebay?

I can't see how they could ever enforce this law, it's just stupid!

The Japanese news sites I occasionally read still seem more interested in the various 'Live Door' and 'Dodgy building' scandles than any banning of secondhand sales.

Is it possible that they haven't yet noticed or is the date the ban comes 'in to effect' of significance.

AS far as I am aware, this is total bollocks and is probably the result of someone relying on Google translation.
There have been a couple of cases of illegal technology transfer to China and N. Korea recently. Sweet FA to do with s/h electronics, though.

lol - missed that! But I do know that computer software & video games can't be sold on the secondhand market. The back of all japanese gamecube games have NO RE-SALE written on the back...
