Well this Meridian dac does sound superb and after some fighting got it to work with my mac.

Today I purchased a cool Warp DVD so thought I would output from the DVD player via optical into the dac.

Again the Meridian is having none of it, it can't lock onto the signal so basically I can't use it.

This is such a shame, is there any reason for this apart from the fact it is ancient!

Also not being very clever on this type of thing I have choice of out puts and inputs on the DVD player and DAC the optical cable or Coaxial. Now to me the other one looks like a simple phono connection, but I am guessing this is not so? If I were to use the coaxial option would this perhaps fix the problem with the DAC?

Have you set the DVD to output PCM signals that the DAC will recognise?

There should be an option in the setup menu somewhere.

Chances are that the PCM output from the DVD will be 48kHz which garyi already determined did not work with the meridian.

Anything I can do? Its admittedly not the best DVD player on earth but I didn't get instructions with it. A JVC (insert millions of numbers here)

No chance about it - ALL DVD players output DD->PCM at 48+ kHz... IIRC

Gary - if you're REALLY desperate - get that Kenwood MD deck on PFM; it'll sample convert 48 kHz IN to 44.1 kHz OUT - job done :)

Unbelievable, so basically this DAC is not a lot of use, why do people spend so much money on it then lol.

As I've posted before my current 203 DAC will lock up with 48kHz signals. Do you have a DAC5 (serial no 1*****) or DAC7 (serial no 3 ******) ?

You must however as pointed out set the output correctly from the DVD player (and set it back if you ever want 5.x type sound out of it). The Meridian DAC made a shed load of difference to my DVD 2 channel output, but made very little difference compared with an ARCAM DAB Unit. Quality of internal DACs??

As I have also said I've had some 203's lock up to 48kHz signals and others not. You could just buy another one and eBay off your existing one. You might be luckier second time around!
