I have been considering an upgrade and decided the cd player was the most obvious at the moment.I wondered if anyone had any particular thoughts or suggestions? I have shortlisted one or two possibles but wouldnt mind some suggestions.
    LECTOR CDP-O6T
    the new Astintrew
And what about the Katana se it got great reviews but dont see much of them.

I am always slightly wary of "lesser" known brands as I always like to get a good resale when I get rid of my stuff.

If it helps current cd is Shanling t80 and I use 300b amp with passive pre through Audiovolta speakers.

I have read good things about the Lector cds also what about AH!

    Your ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi,

I was wondering if you could answer a quick question for me about the T80?

I know it has a digital volume control built in, but I would really love to know whether the volume control works with the digital out? If it does then it would enable me to run my DAC direct to a power amp in my second system.

Also are you going to sell your T80? I'm not sure I want to buy one right now but if its a really good price I might!

    Hi,
I will be selling my cd player and yes it does have a volume control but can you clarify what you mean by "the digital out"

I am not a tech type person so do it in simple terms.

Cambridge 840C @ £750 is all the CD player you need - ever IMO.

Has the added benefit of two digital inputs/outputs so you can get great results form a server, be it a dedicated device, PC or notebook with digital output.

24/384 capable form the internal cd transport of external sources.

    Oh, and very nicely built.

I have a Minimax by Eastern Electric up for grabs. It's been on HIfiforsale for a few weeks but seems to only attract folks who would like me to send it first then patiently wait for payment :(

    Piccies HERE

    Hi,

Well most CD players have two types of output. First type is analogue that can be plugged in to a pre-amp or integrated amplifier.

The second type is a digital output that just sends the digital data off the disc and that will then be connected to an external converter or 'DAC' that changes the 1s and 0s to music.

I have a nice DAC and if the digital output is also controlled by the volume then I can use the DAC direct in to my power amp.

The honest answer to your question Tenson is I dont know, never having used it in this way and if I remember rightly the cd player manual is not expansive.I'll dig it out and have a look.

With regard to the Minimax I chose the Shanling over the Minimax as my local ealer does both.I just preferred the T80 so I wouldnt see it necessarily as an "upgrade" .i like the Cambridge it was one I considered I recently got to buy a hifi for my friend and it was the Cambridge I finally got him.Sounds very good.

I bought a MHZS ($us 750) (i know strange name) from pacific valve co china, primarily as a transport to replace a reclocked but cantankerous Teac t1. As a transport it betters the T1 and as a stand alone unit runs supprisingly close to my expensive audiomecca dac on upsampling mode and I havent upgraded the tubes yet, build and apperance first rate, its a top loader mech by phillips lazer from Sony

I'm not changing it for another cdp. In fact the minimax has been boxed and ready to go for around 6 months. I now use a squeezebox and stream all my cd's via a wireless network.

This doesn't match the lovely warm analogue sound of the minimax nor the astonishing hdcd playback with my Nils Petter Molvaer cd's but seeing as I play mostly vinyl now it seems the right thing to do in letting it go.

If you are interested I'll chuck in a serious power lead and some extra valves.
