shame about the weather up north there Paul...

as for taking pictures of thunder - from what I remember (haven't tried myself!) - shutter speed has to be very fast, and and I forget this terminolgy - but the focal distance has to be infinity...!

Would the fact that the mains cable comes up out of the ground, runs up the outside of the house then along it's length then through the wall to the fuse box have an influence on this?

AFAIK as I'm not an eletrician, the RCD only works from inside the house, ie from consumer unit to ring mains, if it hit, or near to, the cable, I would have thought this would been earthed, and wouldn't reach the RCD.

well it's p*ssed it down here, one or two half hearted rumblings of thunder and now just drizzle.
hope it perks up a bit by tomorrow.
    cheers

hehe, it haven't gone for long, only 3 days later and its just starting up again, not as bad this time though quite tame, a few sheet lightning flashes and a few claps of thunder.

Corr ya your telling me, just got home and its p1$$ed it down, it was really giving it some. Feel sorry for the poor family who's house got hit by lightening, do doubt the insurance company will just say "act of god" and they'll be left high but not dry!

Car gave up in the middle of a lake on the way home
pushed it out, squirt of WD40 and carried on home, gave the grockles some entertainment I guess (particularly the ones in the Range Rover that drove past while I was ankle deep in water). At least it had stopped raining by then so only got my feet wet.

Off sick for a week - yey! I contracted gastroenteritis at Glastonbury (or on Monday) and feel like shit.

Anyway, you lot haven't lived if you've not been in a tent for a 10 HOUR thunderstorm! Pennards Hill was a quagmire by the time I HAD to get out of the tent and visit a "turdis" (read toilet).

One way, there was a river (we'd pitched higher up the hill than usual - our tents would have been IN the river if we'd camped in the same place this year!).

The other, turdises were leaning over and in 3 feet of water...

    We spotted one mud diver:

I did get to see ONE sunrise - from the comfort of my tent. Considering it was only a five minute walk to the Stone Circle from ours, why the hell I didn't go over there is beyond me...

thank god the storms seem to be over for the moment - pretty to look at but they wreaked havok with my elecronics.
i lost a load of work thanks to various brown / black outs.
my dvd player went mental and forgot how to read region 2 discs !!!!
my dac completely flipped thanks to the first unexpected flicker and decided to stick at full volume on the right channel with some undefined dither option! the hi-fi got unplugged straight after the first flicker...
after various unplugging / turning off / pressing of buttons and twiddling of knobs everything seems to be back to normal.
    anyone else had similar strangeness?
    cheers

Some excellent photos there Dom. That was indeed a pretty hardcore thunderstorm, sounded awesome though wasn't in any hurry to stick me head out of the tent and watch the lightning (which is wasted really if it's not dark outside). We'd have been OK if we'd been in the same spot as last year, by about 10 feet... a bit too close for comfort that would've been!
