It seems that the Artic Monkeys care a lot about this, they always have been very good to their fans and now look at them.

    Hi

Ticket touting is not illegal. That is why you see so much on ebay. Touting is currently only illegal at football matches to prevent hooliganism.

If it is your ticket you have the right, in most cases, to sell it. If people want to pay over the odds, then that is up to them.

Where it becomes ilegal though is the people buying them to sell are often involved in other petty crime such as street drug selling. I doubt very much they will be paying income tax etc.

People buying tickets witht he intetion to sell and private people having to sell them due to change of circumstances are very different things.

    Hi AT,

Are you saying that anyone selling on tickets is a criminal? This not to say there are not dodgy people involved but not everybody.
Lots of people sell tickets for over the odds prices. It's an easy way of making money. If the the tickets are yours and people want to buy them, what is the problem?

The major problem is with companies that advertise ticket that they don't have. People pay over the odds and not get the tickets or get the wrong tickets.

It's all down to supply and demand.

Quite right, once again if the poeople (fans good and not good; anyone got a definition of a good fan yet?) did not activly encourage and support the actons of touts then after a short while touts would go out of business. Fans have the cure in their own wallets and credit cards, just don't purchase tickets from touts.

In some ways eBay actually helps as in many cases heaps of people try to make a quick buck on their personal tickets, but simply the number available can mean you get them at the same price or cheaper than the original cost.

Good seats cost money. I'm fairly happy to around £100 per ticket for top seats. Green Day and Foo Fighters twice worked out very well indeed. In both cases got tickets to their "special" dates which I wouldnt have stood a chance if I'd tried to buy from the original vendor. In all three cases the sellers were really nice people who made some money from being clever in their buying. I dont have a problem with it.

I imagine it's true in some cases but your statement seems a tad general. Where's the proof?

Seemingly ticket touting isn't illegal... unfortunately.

There was a good website set up in 2003 for people trying to get sorted with Glastonbury tickets after they had sold out. www.scarletmist.co.uk - the idea behind this was that people could only sell at face value or trade tickets. Seemed to work quite well for a lot of people and is still going.

I really dont see the problem here, as Dean has said, it is supply and demand.
If no one ever purchased from a tout they would soon disapear.
If you really want to blame anyone then blame the people who buy from touts.
It is the basics of business, if people are willing to pay inflated prices then what is the problem with someone making a bit of cash from it?
Saying they are criminal is way off the mark IMO.
So what if they sell weed aswell, that doesnt make the ticket sale illegal, does it!

I think it's the fact he wasn't able to buy a ticket at the price he wanted... ;)
