Hi Guys, ya not exactly hifi, but a couple of weeks ago I walked into a railing and bust my watch, I was gutted, it wasn't expensive, but I've had it for 6 years and it was good to see and had a lot of neat fuctions. It was an iornman databank link thing.

Well now I need something to replace it, no longer need a databank since all my contacts are in my phone or pda, so looking for something a little speical.

Was thinking along the lines of the Casio Protreks with their digital compass and barometers and all those gadgets, but I'm open to suggestions, just has to have lots of cool gadgets and features.

    Any ideas?

Or how about one of those that measures heart rate, running pace (or cycling rate), etc?

There are lots of fine watches, many that you will never see in the British high street and much more impressive than the 'techno' ones.
Time Design and Time Factors are worth a look.

    Recommend the Casio Protreks...
I've had 2 over the past 10 years - the last one only suffereed a demise due to fist jamming on a gritstone crag :EEK Still works but the glass is scuffed..
The one I've got now is the one with compass, barometer, altimeter, thermometer, 6 alarms, stopwatch and of course it tells the time (gains about 2 seconds a month). Battery lasts about 4-5 years, and Casio will replace the battery, re-set and test the barometer/thermometer and re-seal (it's 100m water-resistant) for less than a tenner.
And you can get them as a special offer from climber or trail walker magazine for around £100.
And I find the altimeter essential in the mountains...

Spoil yourself with a Breiling or something. A Navitimer will do lots of stuff.

<<all my contacts are in my phone or pda>>

If your phone or PDA don't have a clock, buy a new one that does.
Then don't wear a watch any more....that's pretty special....unless you are wearing it for a reason other than telling the time....

Thanks guys for your help on this one. There are some fine looking watches being suggested here.

I see most of you like the analog style watches, personally I don't get on with these, too small and fiddlie, they're great watches and all, just not my cup of tea.

Yep I like the techno stuff, yep my phone and pda do have clocks on them, but I'm not carrying them with me all the time, can't put my phone on my wrist, though this would be cool, someone should invent the watch mobile that would rule.

I like the idea of the remote control watch, would certainly solve the problem of me loosing my remotes.

Yep I think the protreks are the way to go, although £100 is a little out of my price range was thinking along the lines of £50-75 seen them on ebay for that kind of money.

Get a Casio Futurist from argos for 30 odd quid. Looks pretty good...I've had loads of comments on it...even though its only a cheapy casio thing. Its got a vibrating alarm and the negative display (white on black) look ace!

    lee,
my nokia 5140 came with a watch style strap - i shit you not but i wouldn;t want to wear one that way for long due to the heaps of people falling about the place laughing. it's got a ludicrous amount of toys though, a clock, compass, spl meter, light, gps if you pay extra and you can even talk to other people using it!!!!
i gave up wearing a watch about 4 years ago. i has a cheapie one when i went to thailand as i didn;t take my mobile but time just isn;t that much of an issue for me at present and if it is i'll have my mobile on me so.....
    cheers
