Yes I have noticed this, birthdays, x-mas, anaversearyies seem to come around all too quickly, weekends seem like 3 hours.
Time spent at school and collegue felt much longer than it was, yet I've been out of that now for 11 years that times just disappeared.
I think its because we packed so much into our school life that was interesting / fun we remember it, but ask me what I did at work yesterday / last week, I couldn't tell you, interest and fun are things of the past. (where work is concerened anyway). :)

Dammit Michael, all I want to do now is go home and stick that song on.
This thread has come at just the time when I'm feeling melancholy about the whole waste of time that is my job.

Heavymental, If you'll excuse me for saying so I think it's about time that you had a serious review of your employment possibilities.

I've NEVER lived to work! You might as well be dead, as if you're that much of a boring stiff... Unless you're one of the 1% that actually ENJOY their work.

I'm with Jip on this one - everyone I know counts down the days til the weekend - THAT'S why time goes by so quick as you get older - you're stuck in a job through the best parts of the day (i.e. when the sun's out :().

Being single makes the time go faster too IME.

No problem Steve. I'm acutely aware of that. I think this is a major problem with alot of 20-30 year olds. Of the people I know or read about on this and other forums many are fed up of their work. There have been several threads here fairly recently I think? Not that it changes my situation but is this a problem of young people in the 90's/00's?

    I quite enjoy what I do... :)

Then again, you wouldn't have to change my job much to make that not the case. Just change it from audio amplifiers to switch mode power supplies and I'd get rather bored.

The best book on the subject of time perception was published as long ago as 1927. J.W. Dunn's "An Experiment With Time." Well worth a read. Amazon link here

My, my, we are a despondent lot aren't we? :D

When I reached 45 I looked back at the things I had done over those 45 years and what I had achieved. It was a heck of a lot. The thought that I might have another 45 years to go and what I might achieve in all that time was quite awe inspiring. Hence why, this year, I quit the job I was no longer enjoying. I figure if I have all that time, I can stop, draw breath, put my house in order and then take my time to figure out what I'd really like to be doing until my time is up. I have time to learn new skills and have a whole new career, hopefully one that I won't want to retire from.

Thanks for that, Chris. It's good to see a little positivity.

It reminds me of a story about Maslow, the pioneering humanistic psychologist. Maslow began his psychology courses by taking a poll of the students. "How many of you aspire to greatness?", he would ask. Invariably, no one would raise their hand. "If not you," Maslow challenged, "then who?"

Yes, well I don't know about greatness. We'll see. I would like my future to include my twin passions of hifi and photography if I can. Actually there's a lot in common between my current thinking and yours.

    Coherence...

    ...hmmmmmm? :D
