Rather than us digging around on Ebay, can you say what it is?

    From the Hi-fi World website:

Sony CDP-X3000ES £500 Mar 98 Neutral, dynamic and stylish but not quite up with the best

Popular for its looks, being a top-loader and for unusually moving the CD rather than the laser (think that's what it does).

also needs a fair bit of modifying to really come up to scratch as a transport, it works much better as a stand alone player. A new clock and some mods to the power supply can work wonders though.

Nice bit of kit. Owned 3 over the years. The 5000ES really is rare. Have only ever seen one on Ebay.

I'd say the opposite Shrink, I had one and was not impressed as a CD player (thought for the money its not bad) but it was a fantastic transport. It has a very soft sound as a CD player, much like the typical NOS DAC and that doesn't do it for me. As a transport it was nice and clean and looked great.
