    Hi,

I have a Toshiba 14" TV that's about 1 and a half years old. It's suddenly started to give display problems, in the sense that when you switch on, any input from the SCART or RF connections simply becomes a rolling image and gets darker and darker, until you cannot see it. Is there any way to reset the TV or would I need to take it somewhere for repair?

If so, what would it cost (roughly) to get put right? If it's more than £30, would you advise just buying a cheap portable from Asda or somewhere like that?

    Many thanks,
    Neil

It sounds like the virtical synch potemeter needs adjusting, this can be fixed quite easily but it means taking the casing off and of course you may get an electric shot if you don't know you're doing.

If it just a pot adjustment then most repair shops should do it for about £10-£15 or so, it would only take me 1 minute to fix it. If its somthing else then I would just buy a new TV.

Get a free quote and then decide. That TV is probably worth £30-£40 if it worked.

Thanks - will take it down to the repair shop in the morning and see what they say.

I may be totaly wrong but I know there is an adjustment for that, I had a mate that used to fix a lot of computer monitors that did the same thing and I used to have a 14" TV which had a v-synch adjustment control to stop that rolling from happening. Manufactureres are crafty and put a lot of the potemeters inside the case so you have to take it to be repaired.

The weird thing is that it appears fine for the first 2 or 3 minutes, then it starts playing up!

    Hi

Get a estimate by all means if you can or though there may be a charge for this, I don't think you could look at a repair for £30 although you might be lucky, I don't think on a modern t v there it would be a simple adjustment ( frame hold etc) more likely a jungle chip, you could get an idea by goggling the model number and wading through to get an idea of the sort of thing it could be, from you r description it could be something like in the video stages, frame, or sync separator, this would usually be all in one IC,I would just buy a new one.

Thanks Stuart. Managed to take it to a local shop that a few people I know have used and should be getting a free quote by Tuesday or Wednesday. Will see what happens from there.
