transformers

    Ive found a transformer with 2 sets of 115v primaries and 2 12v secondaries. The primaries are grey 115v blue 0v & orange 115v violet 0V. Can these be used on 230v? if so how do I connect?

    stick 230vac in one end, a meter on the other and stand well back

    you connect:
    mains live to grey,
    blue to orange,
    violet to mains neutral.

    forgive my ignorance but what would connecting the blue to the orange achieve?

    You have 2 coils [forget the secondaries for now]. You daisy chain one-t-other

    as in:

    in>out>in>out

    both coils see 1/2 the mains voltage
