    Hmmm...exotic and tripe in the same sentence..!!

    I love goose and I've had venison and pheasant...tho, they aren't really exotic themselves...

    I wouldn't really classify any of those (ie rabbit, pigeon, vension, goose, etc) as "exotic".

    Even Guineafowl, Kangaroo and Ostrich aren't any more.

    Not entirely convinced by his arguments to his source of meat though...

    Seems sensible to me. I remember seeing Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall eating roadkill on one of his programmes. If its not too flat or ripe, I don't see why not.

    Must admit, I wouldn't have thought of rabbit, pidgeon, tripe or goat as exotic ... though in the case of tripe certainly revolting (its the smell of it cooking that really gets me).

    I remember watching some program a few years back when they'd get ordinary people and let them do their ideal job 9as I remember) - anyway, this guy wanted to take tourists out on the outback, and to the trainer said that the only way he could convince the tourists was by finding a grub (but it's location was known to these) in a tree and eating it...all went well, until he placed the live thing on his tongue...how I laughed as he grimaced atthe thought of eating it...!! I think he spat it out in the end :D

    I expect a Chinese restaurant serving top quality regional food could without too much trouble be able to provide you with any number of exotic mouthfuls. Far, far easer than importing fresh Red Tree Rats rom the Kelder Forest.

    I've had anaconda, caiman, crocodile, sea turtle (both meat and eggs), tortoise, armadillo, monkey, warthog, gazelle, plus the ones I forget and the times I didn't ask.

    In my book, rabbit, pigeon, tripe, goat don't qualify as exotic...

    Edited: now I remember, iguana, agouti and capybara (both rodents) and of course snails (do frog legs count?)

    stewed camel, snake curry, and a whole sheep's head hacked into lumps with a cleaver and with the eyes lovingly presented on their own...

    kaskado - prehistoric fish (looks like a sea bound armadillo sort of).

    Only available in Trinidad ... plus some of the others.

    pigs tail, calves brains.... etc....

    Is monkey and anaconda worth the trip ?

    Yuck :( Having been vegetarian for 12-13 years I find even normal meats like lamb and beef discussing! I never did like fish...

    I am happy with Chicken and most pig meats though. Beaded cod isn't too bad if it has no skin. It’s the taste of the fat and oils I can't stand.

    Mr Boyt sounds like a freak to me, bet he gets no visitors (apart from occasional reporters), his house probably stinks.

    People should eat more (fresh) rabbit though, it tastes good (in stews anyway) and there are bloody millions of them, although I'd tend to avoid the ones that hang about on verges eating filthy polluted grass (why do they do that?):D

    when I worked at Andersen we actually had alligator twice in the works canteen (the poor guy serving had to put up with a hundred smart arsed orders to 'make it snappy'..) - so today's exotic is tomorrow's pie'n'mash!

    No seriously, all these so-called exotic dishes end up tasting the same as the recipe is basically the same: lots of red hot pepper.

    But the Amazones area is definitely worth the trip
