Tree rat stew

    They've served shark steak in our canteen before. I HATE fish, so didn't try it. Mind you, I once HAD to eat trout, and to my surprise, actually really liked it! Maybe it's the fishy smell during preperation that puts me off more than anything?

    Rotten shark and burned sheep's head and smoked puffin have all been tried by friends of mine on their last trip into the Icelandic interior.

    Thing is fish when its fresh and that's the only way to eat it (unless you are Icelandic :) ). Shouldn't smell especially fishy.

    When I went to Reykjavik, I had the smoked puffin, but steered clear of the rotten shark. It was rather nice actually - texture was a bit liverish and the taste was a bit fishy (its what they eat after all), but quite tasty really.

    I'd guess seagull probably tastes a bit fishy too. Except maybe Cornish Herring gulls, which probably taste of Pasty :) , except the ones from Newquay, which probably taste of kebabs :rolleyes:

    I had fresh caught clams in the States. Can't find 'em round here so I would call them exotic :)

    I had iguana and goat in the Caribbean. Tasted like chicken and lamb :D

    Every butcher round here has rabbit, goose, partridge, pheasant, venison, etc.

    Hmmmm....

    On the first visit to my wife's home in Thailand I was served fermented afterbirth from a Water Buffalo.. this is a real delicacy apparantly!!! very salty/hot/sweet...only had the 1 mouthfull, but had to try it as the wife's grandmother had prepared it specially for me...

    Sounds like a lot of west indian food I have had.... If it doesnt burn the cook made a mistake.

    Best ever was "mother in law" - hot radish basically just cooked with pepper (scotch bonnet chillies). Lovely but if you are out of practice a killer.

    South America is definately on my list for an extended trip though !!!!

    If you run a pheasant over you're not allowed to stop and pick it up for the pot. But anyone behind you can! Weird.
    This is really annoying cos I've killed quite a few in Hampshire. They have an amazingly suicidal streak when cars approach.
