need a strobe & disc, any prefference or just the cheapest?
Hi The one I always see around the place is the SME one. Ive never really seen another. You dont need a light though (not really). Just make sure you look at it in artificial light (not daylight) and when the little bits on the edge arent moving - the speed is correct. If its too fast or too slow the whirring pattern will appear to move clockwise or anti clockwise. This is the same with the light but it makes it easier to see. NB I went to http://www.audiophilecandy.com and typed in 'stroboscopic' they have about 5! the cheapest is amazingly 3.95! lol edited to add: The clearaudio one they do looks just like the SME one The townsend one they do from its description sounds even better. The one at 3.95 though is so cheap! fab.
For the strobe, there are a number of diy solutions available, I believe. For the disc, get something sturdy. Bent ones are of no use whatsoever. It's probably okay to pay a little more if that means getting something that will last you a while.
cheers Chris I tried one to use with a 50hz mains light source and havent got on with it, maybe me poor eyes you have PM btw
