Having an old skool morning listening to one of my old faves:
Jungle Brother - Done by the forces of nature.

Think I might just dig out some Big Daddy Kane later:)

If you like the Incognito version then you defnitely should. Their version prompted me to seek out his seventies albums, which imo belong to the best of that decade. Talking Book, Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life develop from introspective -, to concept - to engaging pop kind of soul. I reacted as I just started to digging these out once more.

Beck says in the latest issue of Q mag that the song is about feeling good 'without the sacharine' and that he would never be able to write something that good.

    Enjoy!

What's so wrong with 80s beufont rock like Bon Jovi? Every band has their place :)

How about "Gipsy Road" by Cinderella?? :) Cheese-o-rama - especially the vid (and the album "Long cold winter" is pretty good if you like that kind of thing!

BTW - Mr Cat - is that YOUR cat in the avator? S/he's very cute :)

I've heard OF Sonic Youth, but only heard a fairly-duff tape copy of a bit of one of their albums, once. They seem pretty damn cool! I love the album cover for "Dirty" :)

Aww - shame about that cat! I love cats (not literally, that's illegal!) but I'm loathe to have one again - my old housemate's cat pissed in my old, and obviously now ex-Yamaha home cinema processor. Mind you, she had taste - music, not movies, is where it's at!

    Sonic Youth

I've only heard of them via Half Man Half Biscuit; specifically 'Look Dad, No Tunes':

'And I feel cursed and sore, like
    I'm Thurston Moore like
    The darkness in my mind
    Won't go away ...
    I get feedback
    In my bedroom in Nantwich
I press my foot down on the 'angst' switch
Leave my guitar up against the amps...'

yeah, I'd love to have a kitten, but I'd probably come home to find that it's used one of my speakers as a scratching post...

Ah - now, you can train kittens NOT to do that. Established cats are the problem :) The only reason Narla peed in my amp (I assume it was her!) was because other cats came in the catflap and threatened her territory, so she had to mark it BADLY! She never used to scratch stuff like speakers; she had a favourite (old and knackered!) chair :)

Many mmons ago I went into a Sandwich bar at lunch time, pouring with rain out side, normal elevator music on. The all of a sudden Keep The Faith came on, the whole place seemed to brighten up, people started clicking their fingers, tapping their toes !

    Twas cool !

BTW Did anyone see that program the other night, Queen Mania ?

Thats pretty unfair really, theres a lot more to sonic youth's use of noise than that. Thurston is a genius. :)

Re cats: My cat doesn't seem to be into hifi, never had any problem, she prefers to claw the sofa anyway which is fine by me. When I first got a valve amp she had a quick look at it, stuck her nose on one of the power tubes and never went near it again :D . Spent the rest of the day walking round licking her nose, poor thing. I'm a bit worried about the TT now I have it on a dedicated stand (much nearer the ground) but she generally doesn't seem interested so touch wood it'll be ok.

The Biscuit's mockery is usually affectionate, as in:

'I could have been like Lou Barlow
But I'm more like Ken Barlow'
