just saw one of these up for grabs..... drool.
that would be telling!!! it is offered for £2750, which seems like a steal as there were apparantly only seven ever made and they retailed for £4250 or so. personally i think it's the nicest looking turntable i've ever seen! it's more than i wanted to spend on my upgrade, especially as i need a phono stage too, but it really is beautifull.... ok here you go..... http://www.hifiguy.co.uk/
a few alternatives: from walrus Verdier Nouvelle Platine / Morch DP6 12" arm (no cart) sh GBP 2195.00 Amazon Model Two turntable (no arm or cart) sh GBP 950.00 new addition from definitive audio Nottingham Analogue Mentor with SME V £2300 £4300 from emporium NOTTINGHAM ANALOGUE HYPERSPACE , SPACE ARM , TRACER 2 CARTRIDGE 1950
oh well, it's still nice turntable porn, and it saves me agonizing over wether i should spunk the cash on it or not!! (as if it was ever an option...... )
MAX are selling both SME20/2A and 30/2A - where's that card! Blake, the S8 was a suspended design and was only made for a year -about ten years ago. I suspect it's less of a steal than it appears. There seem to be loads of esoteric tt's around on the used market at the moment- the urge to upgrade is mighty! But I wonder just how much more one gets from these old beasts compared with something more recent and better priced?
blake, the Mentor with a SME V for a few hundred more is better value IMHO. My money would either go on that or the Nouvelle Platine - what a gorgeous deck that is. Even if you have to get a budget Denon cartridge and a Graham Slee phono stage, I dont think you'd ever regret having such a good turntable and arm as either of the above.
the 8 still looks like a beautiful turntable doesnt it? I havent heard an 8 and only heard the dearer Platine Verdier so cant really compare the sonics. Heres the Nouvelle - http://www.jcverdier.com/platineN/Nouvelle_Platine.html
I've seen bottleneck's mentor. Big plinth, big platter, sounds all right too A lot of TT for the money. -- Ian
The Mentor looks different depending on its age. That picture must be an early Mentor - Ive never seen a dust cover on a Nottingham deck before, and the motor position is different amongst other things to my Mentor. The mentor was the model down from the top one (Anna-Log) in the NAS range. Its replacement is the Dais.
