I am going to buy a 21" TV to replace my 14" as I am having to squickle my eyes to see the details (also the tube is an incurrect, a straight line is bent etc) so I am guessing the beams are not directed to the phoshper(sp) material correctly.

I don't need a NICAM TV as I have a NICAM video as the decoder which is plugged into my amp.

Anyway I've done a bit of window shopping and here my options.

    1) a 28" NICAM Matsui TV (with 12 months warranty from currys), but with no remote, and its a bit scruffy) £70 - this will be to big for my bedroom though

    2) A philips 21" NICAM tv again with no remote £99

    3) A new Sanyo 21" Mono TV with stand for £120

    4) A new Toshiba 21" Mono TV £140 (over my budget anway)

So far I think the philips is winning. But I am so tempted by this 28" although its far to big for my bedroom.

P.S I know this is not HIFI, maybe it should have gone under chat, if so sorry.

I don't need one, I have loads of spare universial ones, and also the video will be used to select channels as its the sound source, I have a remote for that.

if its not sold (which is highly likely it is) then I will be getting the Philips early this evening. I know Matsui is crap but at £70 for a 28" with 12 months warranty even if lasts just 12 months it will be ok, and if I did get it I would have taken the badge of it!!

But I do think the Philips is the way to go, I've been very happy with stuff from them recently.

I got the 21" philips in the end, the picture quality is very good, although it took me ages to get right as for some reason picture quality via scart from the video is very poor but is ok for phono video, but is perfect from the scart signal from the DVD. The downside is everytime I want to change channel I have to change both the TV and the VCR (vcr is used as NICAM source) I cannot work out how to switch of the speakers on the TV and just have the NICAM coming from two phono leads from that,

I will buy a generic remote for it tomorrow. There is also a slight burn mark on the top of casing but for £100 I have got a silver 21" NICAM TV with a good tube and 12 months warranty, I can't complain, they are £170 in Argos.

The 21" is slightly to big for my bedroom, it was a struggle to get in, so the 28" would have been far to big, if I had a bigger room I may have bought it.

    Wise choice on the Philips...
I've always found them to have the best picture quality of any domestic TV, followed by Sony.
And wise decision not to get widescreen - bigger wider screen with the same number of (differently shaped) pixels = lower resolution!

Thanks it seems to be a bit of a bargain, I spotted the same TV in dixons for £180, I got for £100 just becaise of a slight burn mark in the casing and no remote. My old 14" daewoo remote control works with my philips tv so I now have teletext as well.

The picture is better than my parents 21" Panasonic.

A/T, check the manual or do a Google search, you might find it's possible to get audio out of the TV as a feed for your amp.
