in the interested of flogging dead horses-

i've just bought a pair of PMC TB1 speakers. one has a broken tweeter:

    1. does anyone know the model name and number of these tweeters? or where i can find one/2 cheapish.
    2. any suggestions for a better replacement? (round 32mm is best)
    3. any advances in ribbon tweeters since this thread?
    4. i'm a vigin, so be gentle.

Can you post a picture of the tweeter back and front close up. Look for any model numbers. It probably has a PMC label on it, but it also might have another hiding under it of the 'real' manufacturer ;) I suspect Seas or Vifa, at least the 'i' version looks similar.

You might also have found this: http://www.technosound.co.uk/eShop/ssPMC.html

i will take a look- when i pick them up tomorrow!

a bit of research has thrown up:
    TB1.... vifa D25AG-05-06

    db1... vifa D27TG-35-06

what i'm thinking is, firstly if i replace one, i should really replace both with a match pair?
second maybe use the db1 tweeters if i gotta buy 2 anyway

or buy 2x something more exotic...any suggestions?

i was going to try and rig up some NXT speakers as tweeters, always liked the sound of nxt and wonder why they haven't been used as tweeters???

Get the correct tweeter. There are so many factors that have to be matched in order for another tweeter to work properly. The suggested tweeter swap never did happen earlier in the thread, and that was in an active system with a higher crossover point. Doing it well in a passive speaker is even harder.

Get the right replacement, stick it in and enjoy :) Tweeters don't tend to come matched anyway, so just get the new one you need.

    make that;

    DB1/FB1/TB1/TB2........................... vifa D25AG-05-06

    DB1+/FB1+/TB2+/OB1/GB1............ vifa D27TG-35-06

also found reference to AUDAX TW034x0.

I just did a bit of looking and it is hard to find an alternative drop-in replacement. There are a few Seas 19mm domes that looks good in terms of response ans impedance, but they are too low sensitivity. Go with the correct Vifa one.
