Exactly the same unsportingness is apparant among the Wimbledon rabble every time "Tiger-Tim" (the world's most boring man, after Merlin of course) plays a match. It's so bad that I can't wait for the insufferable dullard to be put out.

On Monday, they were cheering double-faults from Phillipoussis, who would probably have been lynched if he had dared to beat our Timmykins.

i think the ref is overreacting just a bit. what self respecting jingoistic sun reader is going to step outside of his bastion of englishness to travel to switzerland in order to duff up a referee. i feel more sorry for the poor swiss girl who got a beating off a bunch of louts. now that IS very f*cking wrong and the perpetrators should be thown in jail for a long bloody time.
all in all another example of why i avoid the news like the plague. a molehill was blown up to mountainous proportions by the media and someone got hurt. sounds like almost every other news story there is really.
    cheers

You're not up to date bub. Henman went out in straight sets to the unseeded Ancic.

I have to agree though with the sentiments. The things done in the name of football (in particular, other sports are not immune though) are truly sickening. There's no sense of sportsmanship in a great many events now. It seems that cricket is one of the few sports where supporters will stand up and applaud an opposing team (eg if their batsman scores a century).

Meanwhile 22-year-old Swiss girl Manu Peyer was attacked by England fans and left with a broken arm on a Greek island - and she believes that she was being punished for Meier's actions.

"I think they beat me up because of Meyer's ominous call on the goal," Peyer told Swiss radio.

Am i detecting a hint of something, shall we say, not so English about mr voodoo...a hint of scots perhaps? :D

It comes across that way to me, the thread title being 'typical Engurland fans', where as the sort of behaviour typified by the actions against mr meieur is typical of your average neanderthal Sun reader, rather than the typical England fan, who whilst agrieved by the decision to disallow the goal and agrieved by the result, is not quite moronic enough to begin a campaign of persecution against a man who wouldn't be under the spotlight now if the team had played well in the first place.

Then we see mr voodoos apparent satisfaction at Englands loss, a characteristic often displayed by a bitter scotsmen ;), who with no national sporting 'successes' of their own, even something as small as actually qualifying for a tournament, takes pride in seeing their closest neighbours loose.

(I apologise, you could be welsh, who display similar feelings of bitterness and jealousy towards england ;) or maybe you are english but don't like football, and through a lack of any sense of national pride take pleasure in seeing your countries sportsmen losing).

    :p

I am indeed a Scotsman but have lived in Europe for 6 years and I'm now based in Brighton.

And yes, nothing pleases me more than the English living up to the stereotypes they have created.

Easily the most hated nationality [in Europe] next to the Germans*.

*No offence intended to any German nationals - it's just that after living in Luxembourg for over 6 years I was exposed to the xenophobia of many various nationalities and most of them just don't like you.

I worked daily and socialised with Luxembourgish, Italian, French, Belgian, Spanish, Portuguese, Irish, Welsh, English, Scottish, German, Mexican and people from various African nations and I can tell you that from the outside looking in, the English and German are pretty much derided.

I'm half-English, half-Irish, was born in England, and live in Scotland. I regard myself as British, for simplicity's sake. I take people as I find them.

How d'ya like them apples, Jock? Mindless racist.

You are not alone, however: Scotland is by far a more racist & intolerant society than is England, throw in a bit of West-coast religious bigotry, and it can spoil what is otherwise a very pleasant place to live.

Oh, and I drive a German car and am on good terms with some Germans.

Born in Scotland, Irish roots, Living in Wales, lived in Germany as a kid, spent a lot of time in England.

As I pointed out in one of the other threads, "I like to see eng-ur-lund lose" is sporting rivalry only to me. When it goes beyond that (and it does on all sides), it gets daft.

The English media just make it too hard to support em

    Sometimes Im proud of that.

And then again, sometimes I aint.

What happened to the Swiss girl was disgraceful btw.

Treat others as you would have them treat you.
