I'm really fed up with those over wealthy Chelsea scumbags being able to buy every single player they want, it's looking like this week they're not only going to buy the beloved Shaun Wright-Phillips from us, but the best midfielder in England Gerard. All they're going to do is ruin the English game, who can possibly compete, United can't, Liverpool can't, Arsenal can't, Newcastle can't in fact I can't think of a team in the world who possibly could. It's time the FA or FIFA acted, maybe a wage cap for each team or a maximum a team was allowed to spend on wages for a season. The way football is going there will be a European super league for Barca, Real, Chelsea, the Rags, and the like, and the rest of us will be playing w/o them. Mind you there is a chance that they will suffer big time for their cheating when it comes to approaching players. Maybe the FA will take them to task and relegate them like they did Swindon, or maybe a pig just flew past my window.
Anyway Chelsea you're not a big team and when Abramovich goes you'll end up just like Blackburn. Look what happened to them when Walker died.
    Chelsea bloody rent boys indeed.

Thanks guys just needed to get that off my chest

Its all pretty reminiscent of when Blackburn bought the championship, presumably after that he got bored - no sign of this happenning at Chelsea. Just goes to prove its not really much about sport and everything about money nowadays.

OI! Lay-off us and Uncle Jack people keep comparing us to chelsea but its total sh*t. In total Jack spent an estimated £90 million. He built the stadium, the academy, the training complex and funded the squad that won the 94-95 title. The club runs within its means, we owe very little money and the walker trust fund allows the club to keep ticket prices low. Jack had no intention of bank-rolling the club, he knew it wasnt feasible and openly admitted that he was very surprised the land the title. What he did do was give a club on its way out of existance financial security, good facilities and the chance to buy better quality players. The Walker trust fund still has around £35 million in reserve for the club, last year it put another £13 million into the fund and now Jacks main trustee has given up his job to become a director at Rovers, many believe this is to release more money. So, look at us now, we own our stadium, we own one of the most advanced football academies in the world and most importantly we fund ourselves. For a town with the population of 90,000 I think thats dam good going.

I agree that something needs to be done. My main love these day is Wigan Warriors. The Rugby league operates a very good system thats annoying for us (coz we're much bigger than the rest) but is fair. Every club has a wage cap of £1.8 million, thats for the entire squad. There is a 20/20 rule, not more than 20 players in the squad can earn more than £20k, and there is a limit on the number of southern hemisphere players you can have. As a result, a club like the Warriors runs at a profit, ticket prices are £13 for adults and £6 for children and theres much more humanity about the whole sport in general. More importantly, the smaller clubs can compete with the big boys and with the play-off system ensures that we dont have a Scottish Prem League senario. Amen.

Sorry about the rant, I just get pissed off about Chelsea being the new blackburn etc.

Got bored?? Jack did immense things for our club and never, ever got bored. He dedicated his life to blackburn rovers. People forget he battled cancer for quite a few years. If football clubs were treated as a real business most would have been wound-up long ago, not us.

What a great idea. I might cut it down though, I think four pages on our chairmans facial hair growning skills is not needed. Although I might expand on the structure and sub-structure of the playing pitch with particular emphasis on the qualities of the grass we use. I'll write a second sticky on the virtues of Wigan Warriors.

You just watch Richard change his tune when Bill Gates discovers that a long lost relative of his played for Man City and decides to bank-roll the blues to greatness!

If only..... But seriously I am very sad about the state of English football, when even the biggest clubs are losing their best players to Chelsea, there doesn't seem to much hope for anyone, the only hope seems to be that RA either gets dragged back to Russia due to his illegal dealings, or he gets bored and moves on. Either way it could be very interesting.

Come over to Rugby League, you have Salford (snigger snigger) in your area. Im really turning into a convert and my interest in footie is seriously on the wane.

Saying all that I actually think we've got the most promising national squad we've had for yonks, theres some seriously classy english players now. What we dont seem to have is the next generation, very few 16-17 yr olds coming through.

Sorry I don't understand your not enough British players comment, the main complaint on this thread seems to be about Chelsea buying British players.

One benefit of a maximum wage would be that players would/might pick the team they wanted to play for (i.e. their local team) rather then going for the highest wages. The trouble is a maximum wage kind of goes against the free market economy in which we live.

Shame though - I remember the late 70's when Bristol City spent a year or three in the top flight. Many of the players were born and bred in the city and wouldn't have dreamed of playing for anyone else. On top of this, when the club went from the 1st to the 4th division and the wage bill was about to bankrupt the club, 8 of the players (who had played in Div 1 and were on high wages) tore up their contracts to save the club they loved! Can't imagine that happening today somehow!

There should be a wage cap, footballers earn ridiculous amounts of money. Surely £10k a week is enough for anyone?

Pah, how does one afford the bentley, the mansion, the summer pad, the not quite so summer pad, the ferrari, the mistress, the getting out of speeding fines, the hummer, the bling, the bling for the hummer and the wife on a mere £500k a year?

Theres tax to come off that £520k. When you take the tax and NI off then it becomes clear that they would merely be making a living and it might be so bad that the wife will have to get a job and they would have to make do with lower models in the car range, like the AM Vanquish instead of the DB9 or even a standard 3.0TD6 Rangey instead of the full-blown autobiog models.

Also if we paid them a paltry wage of 10k a week people like wayne rooney would struggle to save anything, and lets face it, whats he going to do when he retires? Theres two very short planks outside my office and Id put money on them being of superior brain capacity.
