I have Accuphase DP-55v and Krell kav 300il with Dynaudio Audience 82.
I want to upgrade my system and i have two choice :
    1. Mark Levinson 390SL (CD/Pre)
    Krell 2250 (Power)
    2. Accuphase DP-55V (CD)
    Krell KAV-280p (Pre)
    Krell KAV-2250 (Power)

    Why ??

If you not happy with what you have ....you are unlikely to be happy with a change.

Look to why your not getting what you want from what you have......

What speaker cable are you using
    What IC's

Is it set up right ?

I know that was not what you wanted but with the level of gear you have you should be looking higher end stuff to get better sound.

    Hi,
I found the Krell integrated clinical and not involving to listen to,loads of power and clout though.

    Amir,

I've not heard either the Accuphase CDP or Krell amps; however, I don't recall hearing anyone critiscise the Accu. for being a poor CDP whereas I've heard plenty of divergent opinion of the Krell amps. Given this, I'd be tempted to leave the CDP in place and concentate on the amplification.

Have you considered trying some different 'speakers? This may be a more profitable route of investigation for you to persue.

Could you please indicate what you hope to gain from an upgrade? It would be useful for us to understand what you think the weak points of your current setup are.

    Regards,

    Stuart.

    Agree.
And if you like the Dynaudio sound, than did you try one of the other models e.g. from the current contour series?

The S3.4 for example should give sufficent bass, but with a more refined presentation.

I assume you buy most of your kit in YEC? I was in Tehran recently and was very impressed with the selection of kit they have. Do they still carry Gryphon? If so, I would have a demo.

They also stock Pathos - their Twin Towers integrated might be worth checking out. Only 35wpc IIRC, and very different to the Krell, but what's the harm in trying?

I wouldn't bother changing your Accuphase. AFAIK, they make the best CD players in the world!!

As for speakers, POP STEREO had some nice B&W 802's.....

    Amir,

Another thought - why not get a nice shiny Accuphase amp to compliment the CDP? I've not heard one, but given their amps are very pretty and and have VU meters I just know that they will sound good.

So, go for a lovely Accu. amp. and save the 'speaker change fo whe you next feel the urge to upgrade. I imagine that a good set of Accuphase elecctronics will see you through a good few sets of 'speakers!

    Regards,

    Stuart.

I think problem is from my electronic and my speakers are so neutral just a tad bright and forward in top end.

If your more concerned about presentation of the sounds, rather than the involvement, the Levinson will do you just fine, for those looking for the music would seek other equipment more worthy

Hmmmm... really need to hear some opinions from people who've heard either Krell or Accuphase (Joel???) electronics. My (ill informed) gut feel would be to get rid of the Krell. Then I'd seriously look at a better set of 'speakers.

    Regards,

    Stuart.

I've got your Accuphase cdp and its definitely NOT bright. Try running it direct into a power amp using the digital volume control, save money on the preamp and buy a better power amp.

    Cheers,
