As the world of audio seems to be returning to valve (tube) amp's let start a thread of valve porn.

Here is one of my cymar PSE mono blocks, Custom made by Elson Silver here in Australian. Output tranies, designed and hand wound by a tranie genius that goes by the name of Bruce Lipsich here in Australia. Forget trying to contact him he's a recluse. Each mono block is about 40 -45 watts depending on bias. Input tube is GE 12AY7 (6072WA 1962) with Driver tube Raytheon CK5687WA 1972, output tubes are 4 x JJ300B's.

Who is it that makes those crazy looking things out of copper and stuff? Look like something you'd find in a mad scientists lab? They're some cool amps but can't rememeber what they're called

    JJ,

Only one of my 300B's has a very faint blue glow. I feel like getting mesh plate 300B's just so I can see some kind of orange
glow, JJ300B are not that exciting to watch even at night very boring.

I love the Cary 805C monoblocks there was pair on ebay a few weeks ago, my creditcard almost was going to get the max
treatment, then my brain kick in! pity they would have been great.

    cheers

    Alan

    Hi,

Well, the distribution I'm tied in with handles these in the UK, I liked the old (stainless steel & gold) look much better. Like this:

Here some of my own Valve Amp's, strictly DIY, strictly "Ultra-Fidelity"....

300B/2A3/45/10Y convertible Amplifier on Edison 60 Chassis, based around the Legacy Design from Le Maison de l'Audiophile, valve rectified (2 X GZ34) with all MKP PSU capacitors and valve regulated (2 X 6AS7 & EF86) PSU SE Design with EL84 in pentode driving the output valve, later changed to C3m driver valves....

300B SE Amplifier on Consonance M500Kit chassis (later known as DiyHiFisupply Billie, now replaced by the "Lady Day" Kit), first more or less original with the first pair of Full Music Mesh Anode Globe 300B's to reach west of the great wall:

And here the final buildup using WE 437A Driver, WE 274A Rectifier and TJ Output valves:

A look on the inside, all MKP Capacitor (custom made Ansar) PSU Capacitors, Silver/Mica coupling capacitors also showing added HT Choke, added 300B Heater Supply Choke, Anode Load Choke for Driver and Gridchoke for Output valve and input transformer....

Another 300B SE Amp on more or less the same platform, this one on the new "Lady Day" Kit chassis, it is again a completely universal Amp capable of accomodating any DH Output Valve on a UX-4 Socket, due to a new Output transformer and mainstransformer DIY HiFisupply designed with me, so 45, 50, 2A3, 205D, 275B, 300B, 10Y/VT-25 and the new UX-4 based AD-1, PX-4, PX-25 et al. Not terribly interesting looking, here configured as "hardcore" WE 300B Amp with WE 310A Driver, WE 274A Rectifier and WE 300B Outputs.

Here a look inside, the many electrical terminal strips are to terminate all the various heater and HT supply wires that allow the different condigurations, PSU this time using Electrolytic capacitors but MKP all around the actual signal circuit:

And here a Push-Pull Amp on the DIY HiFisupply Joplin Chassis that can use 45, 2A3 or 300B:

This uses an 80% nickel interstage transformer driven by a push-pull 5687 or E182CC/7119 with in turn a transformer phase splitter on the input, largely based on Lynn Olson's Amity design but with some twists of my own, especially where biasing and powersupply is convcerned, powersupply again purely with MKP Capacitors but modified solid state rectification due to size constraints (the modifications make it sound ALMOST like a Valve rectifier is used) and no coupling Cap's this time (transformers instead).

A look under the bonnet, size constraints limit the wiring neatness, but I often prefer to sacrifice "neatness" of wiring for making current loops minimal in size.

For what it is worth, any of the above Amplifiers go well beyond the usual commercial stuff you can buy in "Ye olde High Ende Boutique" in both design and performance, they may not be the prettiest, but sure kick butt and any can be build for << £ 2,000 for stereo unless you use silly cost Valves (eg. original WE, as I like to do).

    Ciao T

    Hi 3D,

I read the review of your kit in HFC, it did very well as I recall. Well done. I also think I've met you at one of the Heathrow shows, That picture of your wife reminded me:).

JJ and Blakeaudio are off my Christmas cards list for not recognising quality:D.
