I am currently having some Quad II's checked out, and may need to obtain a set of valves to replace the current GEC KT66's, can anyone point me in the right direction? Chinese, Russian, any help would be much appreciated

    Quad II Valves

    Hi,

Have you tried Quad. They told me that they would check over the amps for £46.50 each amp and replace any valves needed. Not sure what they use but they are the people who made them in the first place. Maybe they will sell you what valves they use when they need to to replace any.

Do a search on ebay for the US valve shops (SRS is a good start). They have plenty of top quality tubes at much cheaper prices.

Or you could try Tim de Paravicini. He does a lot of work for Quad (and will also give a view of the quality of the new stuff compared to the old).

You might like to try some " SARATOV " KT66's. These are Russian but are supposed to be nice :)

For looks and performance very close to the original GEC's,the Golden dragon KT66 retros take some beating.

I've tried and used these in my Quads, and for a fraction of the cost of original NOS GECs,they do come very close and allow me to save the GECs.

Why don't you buy a new set of GEC valves?

Because I did not know you could still buy new GEC valves, I was under the impression that GEC valves were produced by Osram, and not available any more.
I am looking for a set of valves to use that will sound similar (the same) as the Original GEC's so that I can keep the original valves in case I need to sell the amps in the future.
I understand that NOS valves are available, but being wary of clocked cars I had put NOS in the same corner of my mind.
