Are either yourself or girlfriend aware of how many dogs are put to sleep every year? There's a HUGE aMOunt of dogs (and other animals) out there needing homed, without people breeding for cash!

I'm sure it doesn't apply to you Mart, but MANY breeders simply use their animals as baby making machines. Often kept in disgusting conditions (often never seeing the outside world), and simply living a life of breeding. I've heard of some cases where the dogs are in terrible states, but are never given vetinary care, just left to die in a room/cage/shed/etc... full of shit and piss.

MOst people aren't aware of the situation, MOself included till the last few years.

But think about it when you see the adverts for "dog available all year round" . And when collecting, just because they're shown in a nice house or such, doesn't mean they've not just come from the "farm".

There's a huge aMOunt of animals needing rehomed, and they're free!!! (apart from a small donation to the rescue/rehomer).

Anyone interested in rehoming an animal should have a look at http://www.dogpages.org.uk which along with a few others does some great work in rescuing and rehoming animals.

Sorry to hijack your thread

OK MO, my turn on the soapbox.

The pups in question are a sought after and a highly desirable breed, in fact so desirable that a husband and wife are driving up from London on sunday to view them.

Youve gone on about dogs out there that need rehoming etc, that because the wrong people got hold of them in the first place.
Think about it, these pups are up at £350 each and some go for a lot more. Would you buy one at that price and not look after it well?

As for dogs kept for breeding in appalling conditions I'm more than with you on that one, and have done my share of reporting some of the bad ones Ive come across.

I cant stand ill treatment of any animal and I battered a guy I caught beating his dog with a piece of wood, I took it off him and let him have some of his own medicine. Guess what? he didnt like it much.

The mother of these pups is a family pet and its her second and last litter, since having the pups she has calmed down from that leap all over the place excitedness that most staffy's suffer from and is now a lovely calm mature animal.

She's in peak condition even though the pups are just weaned and feeding a litter of six can knock hell out of a dog.

She gets fed better than I do and more so whilst she's been whelpin, she gets eggs and fish and liver and beef and dog cereals and bones etc.

We have a pup cage that is kept in the kitchen, now I'm one them cleanliness mad sorta guys so that cage gets cleaned 3 times a day and more if necessary so the coats on those pups are gleaming with health and cleanliness.

And last but not least, "Tia" is my girlfriends dog but has adopted me and never leaves my side, she is a friend and my silent and unassuming companion and even seems to enjoy music, she's in the listening room before I get half way up the stairs.

We decided to let her have another litter of pups to finance the passing of my girlfriends driving test, amongst other things. So it wasnt so we could just have some "money to waste" so to speak.

The pity of it is that as MO rightly says, there are people out there who view these dogs as easy money and treat them terribly. These people are scum and unfortunatley I can do very little about that, but I do know that our pups will go to good homes as we vet people thoroughly and they will not end up abandond or left to rot in kennels.

PS: My girlfriend pays donations monthly by diect debit to more than one or two local dog charities also.

I resent the thought MO, that you thought we are merely cashing in on our dogs ability to have pups, I hope some of what I have said convinces you otherwise, Mart
