Anyone own or had a play with one?

I lost my phone a couple of MOnths ago and have been using an old spare while waiting for the W850i to be released.

After several delays, I was excited to see it advertised as in stock. So, I plonked myself down and said I'd like to sign up for the o2 750mins and 750 texts contract for £35. We filled out a few forms, and then phoned up the o2 online people as it's an online contract.
I was then told that contract's not available with the W850i!

The offered contracts were a bit pants in comparison. Either pay the same and get less than half the min's and text. Or pay £45 to get something a bit closer, but still not as good!

So, anyone recommend anything? Ideally i'd like 500 min's minimum. 750 would have been ideal. not bothered about how many texts. 300 would be nice. Looking to spend under £40/MOnth.

    Big brother is watching (listening?)!!!

I phoned o2 to find if I could blag my way into getting the contract I wanted, but was quite a simple "not available" response, and didn't even attempt to push anything else my way.
Good in a way (hate push sellers etc...), but would have liked to know what they might have been able to offer.

So, I thought I'd give 3 a try. Their Direct VTT1000 deal looks rather good. £30 a MOnth for 18 MOnths. Free phone, 750 xnet min's and 150 texts. Double min's and text for first 6 MOnths.
    Also, various extras, 50video min's and 50 vid/pic messages.
There rates outside the inclusive mins/texts are ok too.

I couldn't find the price plan with the w850i on the site (like with the o2 offer). So, I tried calling and the chap said he could do it, it's perhaps just as it's such a new phone it's not been updated yet.

Also said if I give them friend's or family numbers who are on 3, they'll recieve £30! I'll need to check the details on that when they call me back in about half an hour :)

Link to the Direct VTT100 price plan... http://threestore.three.co.uk/planoffers.aspx?tariffid=437

Does it have one of those crappy joysticks on? I'd avoid it like the plague if it does

EDIT (Posted at the same time): Clearly not then :) Still, I'm yet to see a Sony that is actually built to last

    lol!

I've previously owned SE phones and apart from the joystick have found them a joy to use. The joystick seems rather hit and miss. Mine started to play up after a while, and I've known others with various MOdels do the same.

It's quite chunky for a slider, and infact I've not been a fan of sliders, twisters, or flips etc. This have a lovely look/feel about it, and spec's sound good.

    woo-hoo!

Just signed my life over to 3 :D

I've heard bad things about their customer service before but the lad I spoke to, Qadeer, was very friendly and helpful.
    Phone should be here MOnday.

With the £30 thing, I asked him to explain and we (both myself and the number I gave him) will have £30 each credited to our accounts. So that's my first MOnths line rental paid :)

And the rest, did you see The Data Theft Scandal on CH4 last night?

A rather chilling if true expose about call centres selling peoples financial information gleaned from companies selling mobile phone contracts to anyone with the purchase price?

There was very little mention of the actual companies involved. I want to know exactly which phone companies are responsible so I know whether I should be worried or not. If I ever found how it had happened I'd have the company in court rather than letting them put the blame on other outsourced companies- if they actually gave a shit about peoples details they wouldn't be outsourcing them like that in the first place. Tossers.

I've long been a critic of this "feature". I've had several SE phones in tandem with several Nokias. Eg. the SE K700i and K750i suffered badly from joystick failure, but the V630i I got for my wife seems a league better than previous ones we've used. V V V light, nicely put together and with more of a 4 way pad with a button in the middle rather than the dodgy joystick which you have to also press as a button.

And what do you get for that 11 quid?

I'm currently on payg. I recieve 10% of my top ups back every 3 MOnths. For the last 3 MOnths I've topped up £150!

My old K300 got run over by a car slightly and it still works fine, the body is badly scratched. The joystick problem is very easy to cure most of the time, you simply remove the casing the right torq key and clean out the dirt which often blocks the contacts.

I have a W700 now (a W800 with 256mb instead of 512MB memory stick but Bluetooh 2 instead 1) it also looks classier with a brushed silver front rather than the orange of the W800, other than its identical, both are case comptable and they both use the same firmware minus the camera. The W700 lacks autofocus.

Either way I am a huge fan of Sony phones and I reckon their Walkman phones are the best sounding phones money can buy, the quality is good with my Senhesier PX100 portable phones.

Looks a really nice phone, but I know I'd break it (those 'slide' style phones would never stand up the battering my phones end up getting). Shall stick with the k800i...

I'm not sure what the point of the replies about paying less are. Are you saying you can get a better deal? Or that you just you the phone less?

I'm a bit rubbish regards getting deals - ie. I've been with Vodafone since 98 and just can't be arsed to switch, thoug I do generally try and get a decent deal at each contract renewal point. I guess i've been brainwashed by the branding

One of my colleagues (mr. save money on everthing) was telling me he switches provider every time, taking his number with him. He mentioned some deals offering XBox 360 or PSP as part of the enticement including a decent handset and v competitive terms. I'll have to get the links from him.

I think you'd be better on contract (I think). Have you looked at the current crop of bundles (minutes/texts/stop the clock/etc.)?
