I do love my Elac 310i s but am missing the excitement on music driven by a powerful bass line - blues etc - miss the excitement. Looking for a small but powerful, sub to put the blue back in blues and the bounce back in Bob Marley. I have a budget of £400.:MILD:

Subs can be pretty easy to DIY. Get a plate amp and a Peerless 12" XLS for example.

    DIY subwoofers

I have built two, one in the distant past which was called the basset, a transmission line encloseure with 4 10" (I think) 16 ohm drive units - It was massive and I used it as a window seat. It was ultimately let down by the poor amplification ststem I used with it at the time. Sub number 2 was a bandpass design and I powered it with a home built 200watt mossfet power amp - cost a fortune but it was let down badly with cabinet resonances, I tried many different ways of bracing the cabinet but never really succeeded in removing the colouration - This one was left in Darwin, AUstralia - 4 houses ago - This time I want one that is accurate, dry, revealing, exciting and very small! - perhaps a sealed encloseure type

    Check out BK

    http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers.htm

I can recommend the XLS, its compact, powerful, and uses the peerless driver mentioned above. A good company to deal with and your cutting out the middle man so their subs represent excellent value for money. No I don't work for them, but I've had the XLS in my cinema surround system for a while and bk went well out of their way to help me sort out a ground loop problem.

It's not a sealed box but the Velodyne CHT10R is a very clean and musical sounding little sub and well within your budget.

I seen Rory selling a q100 over on wigwam for £150 including delivery.

And I recall TB selling a storm III for about £400?
