I notice there is a lot of very scientific people on this forum.
could they explain this to me.

    from the times.
steve robinson who is a water engineer doesn`t bother with high tech radio waves to detect broken pipes. he uses 2 old welding pipes and when he hits water they cross over. he is so accurate
his mates call on him and even his employers acknowledge his accurate results.

    how does it work?

There is no water. He just thinks there is water because he spent so much on his old welding pipes his brain wanted there to be water.

This thread is just asking for trouble.

    Never mind...here goes...

My (limited) understanding of divining is that

    1) there is much water flowing underground over minerals and metals and such like

    2) water flowing over metal creates a minute electric charge

    3) we all have the ability to receive this signal with small receptors we have in our bodies.

    4) dowsing is amethod of tapping into vasts reserves of the earth's energies.

....a hardly phD standard of expanation......I know.

I have my own experiences with dowsing to convince me of its worth......and its limitations and drawbacks.

I have used dowsing to find lost items, which it has very effctively at itmes but it can also lead you ona merry dance at others (mainly beacause I haven't spent the time refining my methods).

How would trying something of no value alter the (correct) opinion that it is of no value? Have you tried reflexology?

I see we have the usual mix of enlightened opinions here.

I didn't expect any different ...so i'm not terribly surprised.

Paul , you can't factually say it hasn't worked for me.....to the best of my knowledge you weren't here when I was doing it!

    Never mind.......

It only has no value in your opinion,
if I can successfully locate the drains across my garden using divining rods then it does have a value to me. If you have not tried it you can not state that it does not work and has no value, merely that it does not work and has no value in your opinion.
Yes I have tried reflexology, It does not work for me, however it does have a beneficial (therapeutic) effect on many others. I would never state therefore that it does not work and is of no value.

    For goodness sake.....

Didn't I make it reasonably clear that my summation was brief.

I don't acually feel any necessity to provide anyone with "proof". Why should I?

No, the incidents that have occured for me go way beyond coincidence (or 50/50)......but ......you can believe that.....or not......:)

Yes I beleive running water over a piece of metal creates a minute pd.

Penance (Chris I think?) fwiw my information was taken from tom graves book entitled dowsing techniques and applications

When I was about 7 with a piece of hazel.

More relevantly when people who claim to be able to do it actually try it they uniformly fail.

There's no evidence it works, neither any remotely plausible explanation as to how it could work. We are in fairies at the bottom of the garden territory, once again. Online hi-fi freaks are so credulous.

Reflexology has no effect whatsoever, other than placebo.

Unfortunately HFN, this (thread) has been a somewhat inadequate answer to your question....MOSTLY because .......AFAIK no one knows for sure!

(It does seem to me that so called scientists are very keen to hide behind their (many) thesis (thesi?) crowing about how much they know .....when in reality no one knows everything.

Put another way I think sometimes somethings just can't be explained?)

It is fact though, as you yourself have observed, that dowsing is frequently used in many highly responsible applications.......such as oil exporation .....and the like.

To recap, I'm afraid my breif explanation is the best I can do for the actual mechnics.

Might I suggest you try googling for more info? .
