I need to create a website for my small business and I need suggestions for the best place to do it.
What I need is recommendations of a webhosting service that incorporates basic website creating wizards so that I can get a site up and running fairly quickly - I can fine tune and edit it at a later date when I have the time to do so, it just needs to be fairly simple but presentable to serve as a showcase for my products/services.

I've looked on the web and there are endless options, so I'm looking for recommendations. I'd like it to be fairly cheap (say £10/month or less) and there seem to be lots of cheap ones out there.

    ???????????????:)

Run by my Dad :) One of the first websites he made and is still always improving it. £8.30 a month. Shopping basket facilities soon to be added to the do-it-yourself websites as well I believe... or maybe done already I'm not sure now!

    Hi there,

In a previous life I managed a web development team for a living and have in the last year set up an online shop for my business. Couple of things:

    1. Think now about what you want this website to do in terms of features - both now and for the next year or two, and see how readily each offering will allow you to do it. Its easier to know you can do what you want now and ensure you will be able to, than to discover 6months down the road that the thing you really need it to do can't be done.

    2. Look out for unbelievably good deals which then stitch you up when you go over your bandwidth or storage limits. They can be a rip off.

    3. Make sure that when the company you decide to go with offers to sort out your domain name for you. Politely decline, register it your self via 123-reg or similar and then tell them the domain when you setup. You want to own that name and not discover later that they own it and you can't easily shift your site oif you need to.

If I think of anything else. I'll post again.

    Now its time for tea.

    Cheers

    Tony

Thanks. That last point in particular is a very very good one! I hadn't even considered that at all, I assumed that if you registered a domain name via whoever then it would belong to you!

    Any more afterthoughts most welcome!

with mindyourownweb.co.uk i will register the domain name in your name, and the domain registration costs are included in the overall cost.
so if u do leave, the name is yours and i arrange to transfer it to your own account with 123-reg.co.uk. (which costs £0)
