Always been intrigued by valves, but don't know where to start?

If I did sell the Rega amp set up and raised , say £600 plus another £1000 from my dwindling cash resource, what should I look at?

    Hi,

Regarding valves, if you use ProAc speakers there is really only one choice - Audio Research. ProAc use Audio Research amps when voicing their speakers, so they have superb synergy. If you have around £1600, you could probably find a secondhand CA50 like I use, its a stonking amp with the 1SCs. Otherwise for a bit more (£2K) you could get a s/h VSi55. I wouldn't look much further than this TBH.

However, if you dont want to spend so much and can wield a soldering iron, you could always try the World Audio Design kits which you can obtain quite cheaply. Wont be as good as a pukka ARC though (IMO)

    Cheers, Robbo

Could have been worse Ian, you could have tried to convert him to Brotzman, I feel an amp is the lesser of 2 evils personaly :)

No problem guys, quite content at the moment......it has taken me about 8 years to get to this stage of contentment.

But....there always is.......everyone I know would always like to upgrade / change /tweak something. But there comes a point where the cost (£££) is not quite worth it.

I feel I am probably quite close to that at the moment, an upgrade might just give a different sound as opposed to a better (to me) sound.

Ahh the wonder of hi fi.....

    Hi all

Thought I ought to say hello here.

For a living I design HIFI amplifiers, and our company also imports various components into the UK. I get spoiled at work so my home system is very modest.

    Old Rotel RA840BX2 (Modified)
    Old Monitor Audio R652 speakers
    Toshiba DVD player for CD
Unbranded Digi TV Box used for Radio
Michell Focus one turntable (currently in office, must get it back soon !!!)

Musical taste - anything and everything but not too much into opera

Its hardly a reference system, but I listen 30 hours a week at work and just use the home stuff for background.

Outside HIFI i like going out for a few beers, preferably somewhere with live music. Watching motorsport on TV. Keeping tropical Fish.

I'm 40+ with wife and 2 kids (no dog... yet !!!) live in a small vilage out of town.

Just so you are aware of brands i work with heres the link:

Chris, do you make Renaissance amplification, or Lamm (or both)

I heard the renaissaince amps at the heathrow show in 93, and it was in fact that demonstration that got me into Alison Krauss and Union Station - which was worth the entrance ticket!

I liked the amps, but my budgets restrict me to DIY and second hand equipment.

    Cheers
    Chris

    Hi.

I make the renaissance, and import the lamm into the UK. We weren't around in 93, our first show was 2001 !!!

    Hello all
I have been reading the forum for a few months now and finally plucked up enough confidence to start participating.
    System
    Cyrus:
    aca 7.5 pre
    2x Smarties (run in mono)
    CD7Q
    2xPSX

    Speakers
    Spendor S6

Not really sure that is it for them touring, they had more energy and commitment than I had ever seen.+ with the Neils problems now behind him who knows.
Q.(is this the right place to talk about this or should I be in Music)

Just joined. Someone on Pink Fish pointed me here. Current system includes:

    Rega p9
    Dynavector XX-2
    EAR 834P modified
Naim 112/150/Flatcap 2 (recent Naim user after 10 years of 300B SET)

I'm about to try some Meadowlark Nighthawks. Any opinions/information about these would be appreciated.
