    Just wanted to say hi......

    Hi Everyone ,

I usually hawk around AVForums.com but have decided to join ZeroGain because no-one really talks about music there. You seem to have more active music forums here and I look forward to having some engaging discussions with y'all.

    DT :)

    Hello

Have been lurking for a bit and thought it's time to register properly. My current system, which I'm looking at upgrading at present, is:

    Rotel RCD-02 cd player
    Denon TU-260 tuner
    A&R A60 amplifier
    KEF Cresta 2 loudspeakers

Target rack and stands, Cambridge interconnects and Chord Flatline speaker cable.

Some of it is hand me down, some of it has been bought by me, and I'm interested in purchasing a record player although I'm not sure what type yet.

    Newbie alert.

    Hi,
Just joined the forum and just about to take my first steps into the world of proper hifi.

Currently looking for some secondhand bargains on ebay and have read some of the threads on this forum to help make my mind up. Looks like amp wise for the meantime i will be getting trying to get a Cyrus 1 or possibly a creek 4040, budget is hindering me (marriage and new house in the past 6 months have curbed my spending power :)). Still have to decide what cd player i am going to go for, i have a pro-ject debut turntable but may consider getting a rega plannar to replace it, if i can fund it.

Expect a lot of questions in the near future.

    alvyn.

    Hello all

Have just posted a list of stuff what I own in t'other thread and am just popping in to say hello in this 'un too.

Am mostly happy with my system as is; the most recent addition being a Velodyne subwoofer. The main speakers are a bit long in the tooth, but I'm in no great rush to change them.

My musical interests have become increasingly classics-based over the past few years, but still play some of that old-time HMHB malarkey when the mood takes me.

    Time to stop lurking

Having spent many an illicit lunchtime frequentling this place its probably time I stepped out from the shadows and introduced myself.
Broad taste in music and fairly agnostic when it comes to stereo stuff, despite the handle I have in fact owned some naim gear in the past but now sit firmly amongst the knights of the round earth, not to say that I won't change back should I be taken by the whim.

    Hi there!

Here's a newbie from Portugal! Well, I started the very wrong way: Home cinema! So, the first gear was:
    - Marantz SR5300 receiver
    - Sony DVD NS400D
    - NAD C521
    - Monitor Audio Bronze 4 fronts, Central, Bronze 4 rears
    - Mission ms8 sub

Right now, I'm upgrading this the right (at least a better!) way: Stereo!!
So, now I have a hybrid ShengYa pre/power combo: SA-T3/SP-T300. And music just sounds better...

In the future, who knows... a DAC for my NAD, new front speakers... oh well!

    Cheers!

Hi All, my first time on this site.. usually look on the WAD site
i have had all sorts of kit in the past, graduated through solidstate amps and ns1000's to where i am now
my speakers and amps are all home made.. there's no comparison to bought..
my last bought amp was a simply 845.. sounded like the tv compared to the old valves..
anyway..i have own designed 3.6 m horns with the lowther ex4 driver
very deep and detailed everywhere..these are my 3rd lowthers, each a step change. theres no need for tweeters or subs with them when used with old british valves....

valve amps..about 5 years ago i made a ml4 / px4 SE, this works well with px25's too, very good sound with bass like thunder
my best sounding amp (at present!) uses a single 41mp mesh plate per chanel, with the cd player connected straight to the grid,, it is very simple and sounds as detailed as i have ever heard.. could do with a little more volume though..
usually use a dvd player, and have a oracle / fidelity research /kiseki mc

hi and welcome Steve. You can list your kit in the 'what you got' stickified thread. I haven't heard either Lowthers or Yamaha NS1000s but at a local hifi dealer i got chatting to another customer. He said the only truly good loudspeakers were the one with one drive unit. And no, he didn't mean Quad 63s ;) He meant Lowthers :)

Cheers Rory, he may have been right..lowthers can be very good..and can be quite bad in some ways.. the old acusta's are way to boxy sounding to me and the drivers in them lack detail and bass
many of the modern lowther designs do not have a long enough horn resulting in poor bass and too forward mids and top end.. so can sound good at first but are not too good to listen to long term..
I feel mine are about right .... my horns mouths fire backwards and upwards into the corner of the room further extending them.
mine measure resonably level down to 30 hz and do not drop that much more at 20hz , measured through the px4 amp.

    thanks for the comments
    cheers steve.

Hi, this should probably have been my first post but it's actually my second since I just noticed this thread.

My kit is in my signature, although I can provide a more detailed run down here. I hear people already saying, so what do you plug those Grados into as the Krell doesn't have a headphone jack, well I also have a Yamaha AX630SE home cinema amp which I mainly use for running the digital connection from my DVD player into, I also run my Plasma through it ...and this is what I use the cans with, although I'll not list my home cinema bits as it's just not very 'Hi-Fi'

    Sources:
    The Exposure CD Player

    Amplification:
    Krell KAV-300i

    Speakers:
Dynaudio Audience 42 on Atacama Nexus 6 stands, standing on solid granite slabs.

    Headphones:
    Grado SR80 cans.

    Cables:

    Speaker Cable: Naim NACA5
    Interconect: Chord Siren
CD Player Mains Cable: SonicLink S-Gold[/QUOTE]

    Hiya,
Been a member (snigger) for a few weeks now but never posted till tonight.
Anyway, I live in Fife, Scotland.

Just been down the upgrade path after selling sportsbike I could no longer keep due to pain from a couple of motorcycle accidents a few years ago.(I was the innocent party in both. Honest.)

    HIFI.

Linn Lp 12, Akito (Waiting for Ittok to get fitted) Origin Live psu and Goldring 1042.
    Arcam Cd 82.
    Nakamichi BX 125.
    Audiolab 8000A/8000P.
Monitor Audio GR 20. (just upgraded from Quad 11L.)
    Audioquest, Vdh and Kimber cables.

    MUSIC.

Easier to say what I don't like :

    Country Western. Awfy.
Pop cack especially the look good but can write, play or sing SFA, manufactured shite. xcuse my Fronch.
Most Metal especially American "NU-METAL" spikey haired, tattooed twats.
Blues. some of it is listenable but mostly wrist slitting twaddle.
Twee Radiohead rip offs. Travis,Coldplay,Keane etc. this guff makes my blood boil.I HATE this .

I can listen to almost anything but I am very opinionated about music.
    Ain't we all ?

Going to gigs is a favourite pastime but not too keen on recorded live music.

I read the thread with peoples music collections on it. Very interesting.
I have mine all catalogued and hyperlinked to AMG so you click on the album title and you can listen to tracks from the majority of them.

How do I post this as it is just an Excel file.
It took me weeks to do as I am relatively new to computers and still a bit wet behind the ears.
Can email it if anybody is interested.

    Anul aint I ?

    Cheers.

    chezi.
