Just a couple of word by way of an intro as I've been reading for some weeks now. Unfortunately fall into the AVT category as defined by wadia-miester :( but I'm starting back down the vinyl road at the moment.

Tastes in music are varied from classical, 70's progressive to some current but doesn't stretch to Country and Western or Boy Bands!

    Cheers

chezi i can safely say that two 8000M's are plenty amp to be dealing with. In fact my only realistic reason for having the four is that it makes wiring my system a fair bit simpler :)

there is an improvement in sound quality... but its not in scale with paying theoretically twice the cost in amplifiers. Im certainly in no hurry to cough up for two more for a tri-amp setup :)

Hi, as this seems to be the newbie thread here's my system:

Linn LP12 Valhalla BasicPlus Sumiko Blue Point, (LP12 owned since 1988, cirkus upgrade a couple of years ago)
    Audiolab 8000a
    Marantz cd53
    Arcam Alpha 8 tuner
Gale GS301 (mk 2's I think) I had the woofers refurbished at Wembley loudspeakers recently, best sixty quid I've ever spent on my hi-fi.
Kimber interconnects and QED silver anniversary speaker cable + equipment on oak cone feet which to my ears do make an improvement.
As you can see my system is getting on a bit so where do I go from here. That won't break the bank... too much. :)

Yet, another member from 'down under'

    Greetings to all from Sydney.

Just discovered this forum, via the HI FI Choice forum, looks interesting so, here I am!

Mainly a Music lover, mostly Opera, Choral, Symphonic works, Baroque and Chamber, in that order.

Also, rather keen on Jazz, female voice, ambient, and some electronic music.

I use various combinations of equipment, depending on the Music I am listening to.

My listening is done on both vinyl and digital formats, almost equally.

    Currently I use:

    LINN Sondek LP 12 / Valhala/ RB 300 / BenzMicro MC Gold.
    Musical Fidelity XLP S

    Naim CD5i

    Rotel RCD 970 BX

    Audiolab 8000 T

Audio Research LS 2 pre amp.

    Meridian 556 power amp.

    Densen DM 10 Int. amp.

Two custom build valve monoblock amplifiers
    each with 4 x KT 88, in ultralinear configuration at 100 w/ 8 ohms.

    KEF Reference Three/2

    Spendor LS3/5a

    Rogers LS7

A plethora of cables, from: Cardas, Madrigal, Audioquest, MIT, SYMO, VdH, and Monster.

My latest acquisition was the Naim CD5i player, replacing an ageing Pioneer DV 717 transport / Sonic Frontiers SFD 2 DAC.

Looking forward to the forum, as I believe sharing our own experiences in audio can be beneficial to all.

    Cheers. :)

    Hi

I've been nosing around for a while and have finally made a post (dunno what took me so long  ) so,well, here I am

I live mainly in Brussels (don't even go there, enough already  ), partly in Copenhagen and I manage to get back to the UK from time to time, home being near Doncaster, whihc goes some way to explaining why I spend so much time in Brussels and Copenhagen

Anyway, my system is split between music and AV, around 70 / 30 and consists of

Source: Pioneer 575a together with a Derek Shek NOS DAC and PSU
    Amp: Musical Fidleity X 80
    AV Amp: Yamaha RXV 650
    Speakers: B&W 705
    Sub: BX XLS200
    AV speakers: Kef Eggs

    And projector and screen, etc

Next upgrades are firstly, a decent transport (TEAC) and then MF power amp

As for music tastes, it changes all the time, so some classical (nothing too taxing, TBH) jazz of the distinctly non-dixie and post 1960 kind (and no wierd F'd Up stuff, thanks) )70's funk and disco, rock and a smattering of good quality pop - i.e prefab sprout, st etienne, and any good R&B which does not see fit to use the words bitch or ******.

You will get more answers posting this question in the hifi section.
Personally the audiolab is the weakest link, a valve amp from edenlake.com with a seperate phono stage will destroy it for about £500 and audilabs still pull some cash in in e-bay.

I'm yet another (near) Glaswegian new member. I've been reading ZeroGain occasionally for ages, and admired the harmonious atmosphere that seems to reign here (most of the time!) - certainly compared to a few other forums I read. I finally got round to joining a week ago, so I thought I'd say Hi.
    My current system is:
    CD player: Marantz CD7
Pre amp: Van den Hul Array A-1
Power amp: Van den Hul Array S-1
    Speakers: Harbeth Compact 7ES-2

Musical tastes pretty varied, from the Well-Tempered Clavier to Tom Waits via Thelonious Monk.

Looking forward to the odd good-natured verbal joust.

    Ian.

    Hi everybody,

New to the site. A friend tipped me off about it & I've really enjoyed reading some of the threads.

System: MF X-Ray V3 & X-10 V3, Roksan Kandy Amp, Opera Prima 1.5 speakers and Pure DRX-702 tuner. Cabling: Russ Andrew's Classic Powerkords, QED Silver Spiral & X-Tube 350 (would love some advice on better interconnects which don't cost silly money). Looking to upgrade the amp to a X-150 in the next few months & the speakers sometime next year. And that will be the end of the upgrades...honest!

Musical tastes are mainly Classical, with Wagner, Mozart and Bach leading the pack; but love Elvis Costello and Eddi Reader, Alison Krauss and Kate Rusby too. Also have a very large, very embarrassing collection of 80s vinyl.

My interest in hifi has only rekindled recently. I've been quite ill for the past few years & music was the one thing that helped me keep it together. And the kit helps me get closer to it. No evidence of flat-earth-itis yet!

    Regards,

    John.
